Paramount sets The Naked Gun & Terms of Endearment for 4K, plus a Picard: S3 Blu-ray error & Shout’s November slate with Farscape, Fargo in 4K & more!
We’ve got a lot of announcement news to cover today, so we’re going to share some of it here now, and then we’ll come back early tomorrow morning with the rest of it. But first, as always, here are some new disc reviews that we’ve posted recently...
Tim has taken a look at Albert Band’s Ghoulies II (1987) on Blu-ray from the MVD Rewind Collection.
Stephen has reviewed Carl Theodor Dreyer’s Michael (1924) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber via their Kino Classics label.
And Stuart has offered his thoughts on Max Ophüls’ There’s No Tomorrow (1939) on Blu-ray also from Kino Classics, as well as Otto Preminger’s Angel Face (1953) and Anthony Mann’s Border Incident (1949) both on Blu-ray from the Warner Archive Collection.
Now then! Let’s get to that release news...
First up, just as we predicted the other day, Paramount has set David Zucker’s The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988) for release in 4K Ultra HD Steelbook format on 11/28. You can see the cover artwork at left and also below. It’s not up for pre-order yet, but the Amazon listing is there, so we’ll include the link below. The 2-disc set will include the film in 4K UHD and also Blu-ray. We don’t yet know if the Blu-ray is remastered as well, and if there will be any new extras, but you can certainly expect many of the legacy extras to carry over. The release is timed to honor of the film’s 35th anniversary, which takes place on 12/2. [Read on here...]

All right, we’ve got some great catalog 4K Ultra HD news to report today, but first we have one more new review...
I spent some time this weekend looking at Stanley Kubrick’s landmark war film Paths of Glory (1957) thanks to a fine new 4K Ultra HD release from our friends at Kino Lorber Studio Classics. For the first time, the image has been scanned from the original camera negative in native 4K—Criterion’s 2010 Blu-ray release was only a 2K scan of a fine-grain master positive—so this is unquestionably the best the film has ever looked at home. It’s a beautiful presentation and not to be missed by Kubrick fans and cinephiles.
All right, now for that catalog news... VCI Entertainment has set Bob Clark’s Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things (1972) for release on 4K Ultra HD on 10/11 as a new 50th Anniversary Edition. The release will include a new video introduction and Q&A with actor Alan Ormsby, along with a new 90-minute documentary on Clark’s horror films called Dreaming of Death. You’ll get lots of legacy special features as well. And you can see the cover artwork below the break. [Read on here...]

There’s some interesting theatrical and home video release news to report today, so let’s get right to it. First though, we need to call your attention to a couple new disc reviews that we’ve posted here at The Bits...
Dennis has posted his thoughts on Rich Ragsdale’s The Long Night (2022) on Blu-ray from Well Go USA Entertainment.
And Stephen has turned in a look at Henri Verneuli’s The Body of My Enemy (1976) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.
More reviews are on the way as well, so be sure to stay tuned for them.
By the way, I know that a number of you have been trying to reach me via email and social media, but I’m currently neck deep in the middle of our big site update here at The Bits. [Read on here...]

Great Expectations, Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, Warehouse 13: The Complete Series & more
We’ve got more release news for you today...
First, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will release Mike Newell’s Great Expectations on Blu-ray and DVD on 4/15. Extras will include a piece on the premiere and the film’s trailer.
Speaking of Fox, we’ve officially confirmed that TCFHE is working on a Blu-ray and DVD release of the new Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey science TV series, hosted by our favorite astrophysicist, Neil deGrasse Tyson. Inspired by Carl Sagan’s original Cosmos: A Personal Voyage from the 1980s (see our DVD review here), the new 13-episode sequel premieres this coming Sunday on Fox, NatGeo and a whole host of related cable channels. You can find all the details here. From the visuals I’ve seen so far, this show should blow the doors off Blu-ray. There’s no street date yet, but we would imagine Fox will announce the title in the next month or two, timed for release shortly after the series wraps up its broadcast run. [Read on here...]
