Criterion’s November includes In the Mood for Love, Power of the Dog & Malcolm X, plus Usual Suspects & The Changeling in 4K & Wolfgang Petersen RIP
We’ve got news, news, and only news here at The Bits today, and we’re starting with the big announcement: Criterion has just unveiled their November Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release slate...
It kicks off with Věra Chytilová’s 1966 Czech New Wave classic Daisies (Spine #1157 – Blu-ray only) and a 4K update of Wong Kar Wai’s evocative 2000 gem In the Mood for Love (Spine #147 – 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD) on 11/1. Following on 11/8 is Jane Campion’s cold but captivating The Power of the Dog (Spine #1158 – 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD). On 11/15, look for Andrew Lau Tak-wah and Alan Mak’s The Infernal Affairs Trilogy (Spine #1159 – Blu-ray only – includes Infernal Affairs, Infernal Affairs II, and Infernal Affairs III). Finally, Spike Lee’s Malcolm X round out the month’s slate on 11/22 (Spine #1160 – 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray).
Note that Malcolm X and The Power of the Dog will include Dolby Vision HDR (In the Mood for Love appears to be HDR10 only), while The Power of the Dog will also feature Dolby Atmos audio.
You can see the cover artwork for all of these titles at left and also below. We’ve also updated our Criterion Spines Project and 4K Ultra HD Release List pages here at the site accordingly. And more detail about the special features included on these titles is available here at the Criterion website. [Read on here...]

The Sparks Brothers, Incredible Hulk, MacGyver, a Koch Wong Kar-wai 4K update & more new Ultra HD pre-orders
We have just a quick news update for you here today, as I’m personally working on more new 4K reviews...
But Stephen has just turned in his thoughts on Phillipe Labro’s The Hunter Will Get You (1976) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.
And Tim has delivered not just one but two new reviews of Bernard McEveety’s The Brotherhood of Satan (1971) on Blu-ray, including this one from Imprint/Via Vision Entertainment and this one from Arrow Video.
Also here at The Bits today, we’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List, to include new 4K titles now available for pre-order, as well as our Release Dates & Artwork section, which has LOTS of new cover artwork for forthcoming Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD titles along with pre-order links. Captain Marvel official, plus What We Left Behind documentary, Alita, Wong Kar-wai news, and more
All right, today’s update is a bit of a catch-all, but I assure you that we’ve got a little something for everyone this afternoon...
First, I’ve posted my in-depth review of Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down in 4K Ultra HD. It’s available now from Sony and I have to say, I think it’s one of the most significant picture and sound upgrades yet on this format, especially when you consider that the existing Blu-ray was an early title on the format and that the Extended Cut has only been released on DVD previously. The set even carries over most of the previous Deluxe Edition DVD extras. Best of all, it’s only $20 on Amazon right now. Definitely check it out – it’s a must have UHD title.
Now then, the big news today is that Disney and Marvel have just officially announced the Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Captain Marvel. Look for the discs to be released on 6/11, just as we’ve been expecting for a while now, with the Digital release due on 5/28. You can see the official 4K artwork at left and also below. Weinstein’s Grandmaster on 3/4, plus another Rumor Mill update & Enterprise: S3 BD review
Okay, we’ve got a couple more good things for you today…
First up, in case you missed it yesterday, I posted my review of CBS’ Star Trek: Enterprise – Season Three on Blu-ray Disc last night. If you’re a fan of the series, it’s another excellent release, loaded with new bonus content. Don’t miss it. [Read on here…]
