Boy, this is a big news day! We’ve got official word of titles we’ve been reporting on here at The Bits for many weeks now. So let’s get right to it...

First of all, Marvel Studios and Disney have just announced Avengers: Endgame for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 8/13, with the Digital release expected on 7/30. (And that is just as we predicted here on The Bits and have had listed in our 4K Ultra HD Release List here for quite a while.) Audio on the 4K will be Dolby Atmos, while the Blu-ray will feature 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. Look for HDR10 on the 4K disc.

Extras will include audio commentary by directors Anthony and Joe Russo with writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, 7 featurettes (Remembering Stan Lee, Setting the Tone: Casting Robert Downey Jr., A Man Out of Time: Creating Captain America, Black Widow: Whatever It Takes, The Russo Brothers: Journey to Endgame, The Women of the MCU, and Bro Thor), 6 Deleted Scenes (including Goji Berries, Bombs on Board, Suckiest Army in the Galaxy, You Used to Frickin’ Live Here, Tony and Howard, and Avengers Take a Knee), a Gag Reel, and an intro by directors Joe and Anthony Russo. The Digital version will also include an exclusive featurette... Steve and Peggy: One Last Dance. You can see the cover artwork at left and also below. [Read on here...]

Morning, folks! Hope you all had a great weekend.

We’ve got an early post for you today with a few things, not the least of which is that we now know what the packaging for HBO’s long-awaited From the Earth to the Moon Blu-ray set will look like. You can see that at left and also below. It’s now available for pre-order on Amazon (click here or on the cover below) with a street date of 7/16 (SRP $39.99 but Amazon has it for just $22.99).

We don’t yet know all the details of the set, but we know that you’ll get all 12 parts on 3 Blu-rays. As you can see from the packaging, it notes that the episodes have been digitally remastered. And we know that the set will include the Inside the Remastering Process featurette. Watch for an official announcement any day now.

We’ve also just posted the weekly update of our Release Dates and Artwork section here at The Bits, featuring all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K cover art and Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, whenever you order literally anything after clicking to Amazon from one of our links, you’re helping to support our work here at the site and we really appreciate it very much. Sorry for our absence yesterday. We’ve been dealing with various and sundry server issues over the weekend and we’re just starting to get back to normal. Honestly, it’s a wonder the Internet still works at all these days. So anyway, thanks for your patience.

We have a bunch of title announcements to cover today, but first, today marks the 20th anniversary of our friends Robert Meyer Burnett and Mark A. Altman’s film Free Enterprise. So we wanted to call your attention to Michael Coate’s retrospective on the film from its 15th anniversary back in 2014. You can read Still Loving Long & Partying: Remembering Free Enterprise on its 15th Anniversary right here. The film isn’t on Blu-ray yet and so it’s always surprising how many people haven’t see it. But if you’re a fan of classic Star Trek, pop culture, and actors William Shatner and Eric McCormack, we think you’ll really enjoy it.

Meanwhile, we’re starting to get back to reviews. I still have two more Batman 4Ks coming, plus Tim and Dennis have some Blu-rays they’ve reviewed for you too. I’ve also got a trio of science fiction Blu-ray releases I’m going to try to cover soon as well. So be sure to watch for those. [Read on here...]

All right, today’s update is a bit of a catch-all, but I assure you that we’ve got a little something for everyone this afternoon...

First, I’ve posted my in-depth review of Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down in 4K Ultra HD. It’s available now from Sony and I have to say, I think it’s one of the most significant picture and sound upgrades yet on this format, especially when you consider that the existing Blu-ray was an early title on the format and that the Extended Cut has only been released on DVD previously. The set even carries over most of the previous Deluxe Edition DVD extras. Best of all, it’s only $20 on Amazon right now. Definitely check it out – it’s a must have UHD title.

Now then, the big news today is that Disney and Marvel have just officially announced the Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Captain Marvel. Look for the discs to be released on 6/11, just as we’ve been expecting for a while now, with the Digital release due on 5/28. You can see the official 4K artwork at left and also below. Today’s update is a very quick one, as I’m still recovering from the flu while also trying to get the new Marvel 4K titles reviewed here on The Bits.

The first of those reviews is up now: My take on Captain America: Civil War in 4K Ultra HD. It’s a worthy upgrade of the previous Blu-ray, with a new Dolby Atmos mix and HDR10 (but only in 2.39:1 – no IMAX ratio).

My thoughts on Captain America: The Winter Solider are coming soon as well, so be sure to watch for them. And don’t forget, I posted my review of Ridley Scott’s Alien in 4K on Friday.

In the meantime today, Tim has posted reviews of Scream Factory’s Warning Sign and The Manitou on Blu-ray, along with Shout! Factory’s Hang ’Em High: 50th Anniversary Edition. And we have a Blu-ray review from David too, this of Indicator’s Take a Girl Like You. Enjoy! [Read on here...]
