Afternoon, folks! All right, a couple things today...

First, today is Prime Day on Amazon. If you’re a Prime member, there are supposed to be some good deals on various things over there, reportedly including 4K Ultra HD displays. Now, I haven’t had time to go over there and check myself, so that may or may not be, but if you do purchase anything, here’s our Amazon link to take you there (we appreciate the support!): Bits Amazon Link.

Now then... Tim has turned in a pair of new Blu-ray reviews, featuring Scream Factory’s terrific new Species: Collector’s Edition Blu-ray and also a recent release from Australian distributor Umbrella Entertainment. The title in question is The Punisher (1989), and it’s an all region release for those who may be interested. Enjoy! [Read on here…]

Also here at The Bits today, our own Michael Coate has turned in another great new History, Legacy & Showmanship column in which he looks back at Steven Lisberger’s Tron on its 35th anniversary. Michael is joined by film historian William Kallay, author of The Making of Tron. It’s a good read, so be sure to give it a look this afternoon.

In announcement news today, Lionsgate has set Conan the Barbarian (2011) and The Legend of Hercules (2014) for release on 4K Ultra HD on 9/19 (SRP $22.99 each). They’ll include all the previous Blu-ray extras and will feature Dolby Atmos audio. You can see the cover artwork below.

And here’s a complete surprise: Warner Bros Home Entertainment has just set a Peanuts Holiday Collection 4K Ultra HD box set for release on 10/10 (SRP $44.98). They’re also releasing It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, and A Charlie Brown Christmas individually on the format on 9/26 (SRP $29.98 each). That is... absolutely fascinating. If I can make a suggestion to Warner, however... how about the Fleischer brothers’ classic animated Superman serials?

While we’re talking Warner and 4K Ultra HD, director Christopher Nolan has just confirmed something we reported the other day here at The Bits (see this link), which is that he’s working on new 4K masters of all three Dark Knight Trilogy films for eventual release on UHD. You can see his comments here (below) via the fine BadTaste.it website...

And finally today, PBS Distribution has just confirmed the 9/9 Blu-ray and DVD release of Ken Burns and Lynn Novick’s The Vietnam War.

All right, here’s that cover artwork we promised you (above). We’ll add the Amazon.com pre-order links as they appear...

Stay tuned...
