All right, we’ve got a pair of new Blu-ray reviews for you this afternoon. Tim has taken a look at Richard Fleischer’s Violent Saturday, a 1955 pulpy crime drama now available on Blu-ray from the fine folks at Twilight Time. Tim has also taken a look at Terry Gilliam’s 1981 classic Time Bandits, just released on Blu-ray in a fine new edition by our friends at the Criterion Collection. We have a pair of new Blu-ray Disc reviews for you today. Doogan has checked out a bit of an Japanese live-action oddball from Drafthouse Films called R100 (2013). And Tim has given Scream Factory’s Phantom of the Opera: The Motion Picture (1989) a look too. Both reviews are well worth your time.

Speaking of reviews, Warner’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and Paramount’s Interstellar are both now in hand, so watch for my own reviews of them in the next few days.  [Read on here…]

We’ve got a bunch more announcement news for you today, so let’s get right into it.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just set Whiplash for Blu-ray and DVD release on 2/24.

Sony has also set The Red Tent for DVD only release on 3/10 and The Song for DVD only release on 2/10.

Also, Sony’s The Interview: Freedom Edition Blu-ray and DVD (due 2/17) will officially include audio commentary with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, and the Naked and Afraid Discovery channel special featuring Rogen and James Franco. To this, the Blu-ray will exclusively add a gag reel, Line-o-Ramas, deleted, extended, and alternate scenes, and 8 featurettes (Directors of This Movie, Puppy Power, Here Kitty Kitty, Joking Around, Spies Among Us, Randall Park Audition Tape, Dating a Dictator, and Getting Into Character).  [Read on here…]

We have some sad news to report this morning, but let’s get this out of the way first…

We’ve got a couple of new Blu-ray reviews for you today. Tim has given Criterion’s recent Blu-ray release of John Ford’s My Darling Clementine a look – a fantastic film and one of my favorite westerns. And I’ve chimed in as well with my thoughts on another favorite: Yoji Yamada’s The Twilight Samurai, a samurai classic from 2002, available now on Blu-ray from Twilight Time. Both films are well worth your time.

We also have a quick new History, Legacy & Showmanship column from our own Michael Coate for you today, taking a look back at Disney’s The Little Mermaid on the week of its 25th anniversary. Do give it a look. [Read on here…]

First up today here at The Bits, our own Tim Salmons has posted a pair of new Blu-ray reviews featuring George Romero’s The Dark Half and Monkey Shines from Shout! and Scream Factory.

I’ve also added a pair of Blu-ray reviews from the old Bits website, both Christopher Nolan films released on BD by Warner Bros, including Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. I’ve gotten a hoot out of it – have loved reconnecting with high school friends and long lost family and have discovered as well that there are people in the world with pages dedicated to interests close to my heart, such as those kept by my favorite authors, pictures of the New York I loved in the 70s and 80s and tributes to great character actors such as Timothy Carey.  [Read on here...]
