Mill Creek sets The Shield: The Complete Series for Blu-ray release in November, plus more news
All right, we’ve got a slow news day for you today, but we do have one great bit of news for you...
Mill Creek Entertainment has announced their October and November release slate and the highlight is that they’ve got The Shield: The Complete Series coming as a Blu-ray box set on 11/6 (SRP $229.98). The 18-disc set will include all 88 episodes remastered in HD from new 4K scans/restorations of the original 16mm film elements “preserving the intentional grit and raw texture that’s unique to this series.”
All of the previous extras will be included, among them deleted scenes, audio commentaries with the cast and crew, behind-the-scenes featurettes and more. The set will also include all-new features exclusive to this set, among them The Shield Reunion, The Shield: A Retrospective, Restoring The Shield, The Critical Response to The Shield, and The Shield Writers Room (a reunion from the ATX Festival Panel). You can see the cover artwork at the left there and also below. [Read on here...]

New 4K & BD reviews, LEGO Aquaman, Masters of Sex, Documentary Now!, Junior & more
We’ve got a bit of a slow news day here at The Bits, but we do have a couple items to report...
First though, we’ve got no less than four new disc reviews for you, including my own thoughts on Universal’s The Incredible Hulk, the second installment in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, as well as Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins and The Dark Knight from Warner, all new to the 4K Ultra HD format. Tim also checks out Scream Factory’s The House that Dripped Blood on regular Blu-ray Disc. All are well worth a look, both the discs and the reviews, so do check them out.
Rest assured, we’re hard at work on several more new Blu-ray and 4K reviews here at the site. We expect to have our hands on Warner’s The Matrix and Fox’s Die Hard: 30th Anniversary Edition on Ultra HD any day now, so look for those reviews to be posted very soon. [Read on here...]

Talking Blu with The Digital Bits begins, plus Batman Ninja, I Tonya, Doctor Who: Tom Baker BDs & more
Tim has another couple of disc reviews for you today, starting with the Pulp: Special Edition on Blu-ray from Arrow Video and Beyond the Seventh Door on DVD from Severin Films and Intervision. Do give them a look.
In announcement news today, Universal has officially set Craig Gillespie’s twisted comedy I, Tonya for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 3/13, with the Digital release expected on 3/2. The film stars Margo Robbie and Allison Janney. It’s quite good.
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release the anime Batman Ninja on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/8. The BD will include English dubbed audio as well as the original Japanese audio with English subtitles. Strangely, there are also plans to release it in 4K but digitally only this summer, not on 4K UHD Blu-ray. That seems like a mistake to me, but I suppose that if the Blu-ray sells well the studio could reconsider. Extras will include 3 featurettes (East/West Batman, Batman: Made in Japan, and New York Comic Con Presents Batman Ninja). The Blu-ray will also be available in regular and Steelbook versions.
