Criterion’s December, new Warner Archive, Rescue Me & Community BDs, Outer Limits: S2 & Invasion of the Body Snatchers

We’ve got some interesting new announcement news for you today...

We start today with the Criterion Collection, which has just announced its December slate of titles. Look for it to include Samuel Fuller’s Forty Guns (Spine #954 – Blu-ray and DVD) and Euzhan Palcy’s A Dry White Season (Spine #953 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 12/11, followed by Julien Duvivier’s Panique (Spine #955 – Blu-ray and DVD) and an update of Ingmar Bergman’s Sawdust and Tinsel (Spine #412 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 12/18. We’ve updated the Criterion Spines Project pages here at The Bits accordingly.

Our friends at the Warner Archive Collection have just announced a few new Blu-ray titles, including the Hammer films titles Dracula AD 1972 (1972) and Satanic Rites of Dracula (1974), both starring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, along with Bad Ronald (1974), Robert Altman’s Brewster McCloud (1970), and The 100: The Complete Fifth Season (2018). Meanwhile, Mill Creek Entertainment has just set Rescue Me: The Complete Series and Community: The Complete Series for release on Blu-ray on 10/2.

Rescue Me will be a 16-disc set that includes 20 behind-the-scenes featurettes, blooper reels, 65 deleted and extended scenes, 2 audio commentaries with series creators Denis Leary and Peter Tolan, an On-Set Location Tour, Firehouse: Real Stories from America’s Bravest, and The Creators’ Last Call.

Community will feature audio commentary on most episodes, Outtakes, Puns & Gag Reels, 3 hours of behind-the-scenes featurettes, and deleted and extended scenes. Additional details are TBA.

And Kino Lorber Studio Classics has officially set The Outer Limits: Season 2 (1964-65) for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/20, authored from new HD masters. Extras on the Blu-ray will include The Unknown (an alternate cut of The Forms of Things Unknown), Please Stand By (an alternate cut of The Galaxy Being, with audio commentary), audio commentaries for 13 of 17 episodes, 12 TNT Promos, The Outer Limits Phenomenon, Penn & Teller TNT Host segments, interviews with David J. Schow, Cliff Robertson, Joseph Stefano, Joanna Frank, and Meryl O’Loughlin, Creature Features with David J. Schow, The Museum of Television & Radio’s William S. Paley Television Festival Outer Limits Panel (from 3/10/2000), Project Unlimited, an ABC New Year’s Promo, What’s on ABC? (1963), 5 TV spots, and possibly Joe Bob Briggs MonsterVision Host Segments.

Also newly revealed to be coming soon to Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics are Don Siegel’s The Gun Runners (1958) and Anthony Harvey’s They Might Be Giants (1971).

On the 4K Ultra HD front today, retailers are beginning to indicate that Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph is coming to the format in November. We expect singles of the Jack Ryan films in 4K at some point later this year or early next as well.

And 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has The Darkest Minds for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 10/30. Audio on the 4K disc will include English Dolby Atmos.

Finally today, Olive Films has announced their next Olive Signature edition, due Blu-ray on 10/16 (SRP $39.95)... Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)! Mastered from a new HD restoration of the film, the disc will include audio commentary by film historian Richard Harland Smith, audio commentary by actors Kevin McCarthy and Dana Wynter, and filmmaker Joe Dante, 7 featurettes (including The Stranger in Your Lover’s Eyes, The Fear is Real, I No Longer Belong: The Rise and Fall of Walter Wanger, Sleep No More: Invasion of the Body Snatchers Revisited, The Fear and the Fiction: The Body Snatchers Phenomenon, Return to Santa Mira, and What’s In a Name?), a 1985 archival interview with Kevin McCarthy, a gallery of rare documents detailing aspects of the film’s production, an essay by author and film programmer Kier-La Janisse, and the original theatrical trailer.
