Now then, we’ve got a couple interesting news items of note to cover today...
First, Paramount has revealed that Martin Scorsese’s Apple Original film Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) is going to be available for video on demand and Digital purchase on 12/5 (tomorrow). Sometime after that, it will be available for streaming on Apple TV+. We don’t yet know if there will be physical media versions of this title from Paramount, but it seems reasonable to think that there will be at some point in the future. And we’ll certainly keep you all up to date on that.
You may recall that we mentioned that Sam Raimi’s Darkman (1990) was coming to 4K Ultra HD and 4K UHD Steelbook from Shout! and Scream Factory on 2/20. Well, they’re now available for pre-order on Amazon and we have the cover artwork for you below.
Also newly-revealed by Shout! and Scream are Father Knows Best: The Complete Series for release on DVD on 12/5, Mike Hodges’ The Terminal Man (1974) on Blu-ray on 2/5, and Matías Rispau’s Into the Abyss (2022) and Kim Burdon’s animated The Canterville Ghost (2023) both on DVD, along with Kevin Lewis’ Willy’s Wonderland (2021) on 4K Ultra HD and 4K UHD Steelbook, and Liam Lynch’s Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny (2006) on Blu-ray all on 2/13.
In other news today, here’s more bad news for Digital only consumers: Sony is having to remove Discovery TV content purchased from the PlayStation Store due to "licensing" issues. Which just goes to prove once again that unless you buy a physical copy of your favorite content on disc, you don’t own it and the powers that be can take it away from you whenever they wish, even if you paid money to purchase it. Finally today, there’s a bit of sad news to report. Canadian press outlets (including the CBC) are reporting that the new-media entrepreneur and philanthropist Daniel Langlois has died. If that name isn’t familiar to you, this might be: Langlois founded Softimage, which produced the pioneering 3D animation software used in such films as Jurassic Park and The Abyss. You can read more about him here and here (switch your browser to translate the original French into English). Movie fans certainly owe Langlois a debt, and we tip our caps in his honor here today.
