We’re starting the new week off with more Blu-ray reviews, as promised. First up is my detailed take on Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies – Extended Edition, which is set to street from Warner Home Video on 11/17. The Extended Edition of this film is the best of the trilogy, so it’s definitely worth a look if you’re a fan of these films. Also, our own Jim Hemphill has taken a look at Frank De Felitta’s Scissors (1991) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics. And we’ll have two more new BD reviews for you on Tuesday was well, starting with my thoughts on Paramount’s new Terminator Genysis early tomorrow morning. So be sure to check back for that.  [Read on here…]

In announcement news today, Warner Home Video has set the DC Universe original animated film Batman: Bad Blood for Blu-ray Gift Set, Blu-ray, and DVD release on 2/2. Extras on the Blu-ray versions will include a pair of featurettes (Putting the Fight in Gotham and Expanding the Family of Batman), plus a pair of 22-minute episodes of Batman: The Brave and the Bold (The Knights of Tomorrow) and Batman: The Animated Series (Avatar).

Olive Films has set Let There Be Light: John Huston’s Wartime Documentary (1946), Christmas Eve (1947), Life Tracker (2013), Serial (1980), and The Undesirable (1915) for BD release on 1/19.

Sony has set War Room for BD release on 12/22. The studio will also release Open Season: Scared Silly on Blu-ray and DVD on 3/8.

PBS Distribution will release Frontline: Inside Assad’s Syria on DVD only on 1/19.

Anchor Bay and Starz will release Flesh and Bone on Blu-ray and DVD on 1/5.

Arrow Video has set Gordon Hessler’s Pray for Death and William Girdler’s Sheba, Baby for BD release on 3/8.

And here’s something interesting: Are there any fans of Syfy’s Warehouse 13 TV series out there? Turns out that Universal is releasing it on Blu-ray in Germany on 11/26. Here’s a link to its listing on Amazon.de. So this is yet another genre TV series Universal US seems to have little interest in, but that comes out internationally on Blu-ray. Thanks to Bits reader David T.H. for the link.

Finally today, we’d like to take a moment to acknowledge the passing of actor Gunnar Hansen – better known as Leatherface from Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre – and also auto customizer George Barris, who designed the original Batmobile for the classic 1966 Batman TV series. Hanson was 66, Barris was 89. You can read more at the links provided.

Back with more tomorrow. Stay tuned...
