Sony will also release John McKay’s Crush (2001) on Blu-ray under the Sony Pictures Classics label on 12/3.
Meanwhile, Full Moon Pictures is set to widely release David W. Allen’s long-awaited and recently-completed The Primevals (2023) as a 3-disc Blu-ray collection on 1/21/25. Previously, the film has been available on the format in a basic single-disc Blu-ray from Full Moon (that arrived on 9/10), a 3-disc Ultimate Collector's Edition with swag exclusive to the Full Moon website (that’s now sold out), as well as an Umbrella Films Blu-ray box set (which streeted back in August and which we reviewed here at The Bits). The new 3-disc release should include the same disc-based content as the sold out UCE box (the Theatrical Cut, the David Allen Cut, and the Lost to Time documentary), just without the swag. You can see the cover artwork below.
Also, CBS and Paramount have set the CG-animated Star Trek: Prodigy – Season Two for Blu-ray release on 11/12. You can see that cover artwork below too.
Well Go USA is releasing Ty Roberts’ You Gotta Believe (2024) on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on 11/5. It’s the story of an underdog Texas Little League team competing to reach the Little League World Series. Extras will include a Little League Special featurette.
Our friends at Kino Lorber will release Erik Nelson’s Daytime Revolution (2024) documentary on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/26. The film tracks John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s day-long takeover of The Mike Douglas Show back in 1972.
As we mentioned the other day, Kino Lorber Studio Classics have also announced a pair of new Blu-ray reissues on 12/17 featuring actor Lee Marvin: Peter R. Hunt’s Shout at the Devil (1976) and William A. Fraker’s Monte Walsh (1970). Both are being re-released on BD-50s (the previous editions were BD-25s) to allow for better compression. Each also has a new audio commentary by Marvin biographer Dwayne Epstein.
Lionsgate has set Ancient Aliens: Season 20 for DVD only release on 12/3. (“I’m not saying it was aliens... but it was aliens.”)
For you music fans, Mercury Studios has set Chicago & Friends: Live at 55 (2024) for 4K Ultra HD release on 11/22. The concert was recorded live at Ovation Hall at the Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City.
Evolution Limited will release Mr. Big: The BIG Finish Live (2023) on 4K Ultra HD on 11/26 as well. The concert was recorded live at the Budokan in Japan in 2023.
And finally, Shout! Studios has just announced that they’ve acquired the exclusive digital, streaming, VOD, and theatrical rights to the Monty Python catalog in the US and Canada. Per their press release: “This includes perennial favorites such as the landmark sketch comedy TV series Monty Python’s Flying Circus, recently restored and available for the first time across all platforms in HD, and comic masterpieces Monty Python’s Life of Brian, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which marks its 50th anniversary in 2025.”
We don’t know what this might mean for physical media releases. Sony still holds those rights for Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975), so it wouldn’t be too surprising if a 4K Ultra HD release was forthcoming next year for its anniversary. And Life of Brian (1979) is a Sony title as well. We’ll shake the trees and toss the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch to see if we can’t learn more, so keep checking back.
BTW, all of the new Criterion January Blu-ray and 4K UHD titles are now available for pre-order on Amazon, so we’ll leave you with the cover artwork for those, along with Primevals, Prodigy, and Warner Archive’s Looney Tunes Collector’s Choice: Volume 4 on Blu-ray...
Back tomorrow with more. Stay tuned!
