We start today with three more new disc reviews.

First up is my look at Random Space Media’s recent Breaking Bad: The Complete Series Blu-ray box set, an all region release that includes the Netflix streaming sequel El Camino. Note that this set is currently selling for the same price on Amazon as Sony’s wide-release Blu-ray set that does not include the sequel film.

Also today, Tim has posted his thoughts on Roland Klick’s Deadlock (1970), a fascinating film newly released in 4K by Subkultur Entertainment via Vinegar Syndrome.

And Stephen has turned in a new 4K review as well, this one of Stephanie Rothman’s Terminal Island (1972) on Ultra HD, also from Vinegar Syndrome.

Now then, in announcement news today, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has made their Mad Max Anthology official for release on 4K Ultra HD and Digital on 11/2, just as we’ve been expecting for weeks now. [Read on here...]

This set will include Mad Max (1979), Mad Max: The Road Warrior (1981), Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (1985), and Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). As many of you know, the first film and the final one have already been released previously on the format, but The Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome are new to UHD. They’ve been scanned from original camera negatives and remastered in a process supervised by the team at Motion Picture Imaging (MPI). All four will feature HDR10 high dynamic range. All but the original Mad Max (1979) will feature Dolby Atmos audio. Some of the previous Blu-ray special features for each film will carry over. SRP is $89.99. Mad Max: The Road Warrior and Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome will also be available separately that day in 4K UHD (SRP $33.99 each). You can see the cover artwork above left and also below (the titles are now available for pre-order on Amazon).

Also today, Lionsgate has officially set Akira Kurosawa’s Ran for release on 4K Ultra HD here in the States as a Best Buy-exclusive Steelbook. Street date is 11/16 (SRP $27.99). The disc should be essentially identical to the StudioCanal UK version we’ve reviewed here at The Bits (see this link), which means Dolby Vision and HDR10, with Japanese and dubbed English in 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. Here’s what the packaging looks like...

Ran (Steelbook 4K Ultra HD)

Meanwhile, Lionsgate has also set The Evil Dead Groovy Collection for release on 4K Ultra HD on 11/16 (SRP $79.99). This set will include The Evil Dead and The Evil Dead II on 4K Ultra HD, along with Ash vs Evil Dead: The Complete Collection on Blu-ray Disc. All of the previous Blu-ray and 4K special features will carry over. Both of the films have been released previously on the format here in the States by Lionsgate (each includes Dolby Vision and HDR10), while the series has been released previously on Blu-ray. In any case, the packaging looks pretty groovy and it appears that there’s a soft cover book of some kind included in there (it isn’t mentioned in the press release). Here’s what that looks like...

The Evil Dead Groovy Collection (4K Ultra HD)

And while we’re on the subject of 4K Ultra HD, it seems that A24 has just released another title on the format in a new limited edition package, in this case Joe Talbot’s The Last Black Man in San Francisco (2019). You can see that here. Special thanks to Bits reader Steven B. for the heads-up!

In regular Blu-ray news, Warner and Adult Swim have just set Rick and Morty: The Complete Fifth Season for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/7 (SRP $29.98 and $24.98). Extras will include all 10 episodes along with Fighting Gravity: The Making of Season 5, Inside the Episode segments for every episode, B-Story Generator Vol. 1 & 2, Backgrounds, Animation and Compositing, Coloring Rick and Morty, Directing Mortyplicity, Directing Rickmurai Jack, and Season 5 Hype. You can see the cover artwork below.

Lionsgate has set Wonder for Blu-ray Steelbook release exclusively at Target stores on 11/16.

Screen Media will release Naked Singularity for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/15. The film stars John Boyega, Olivia Cooke, Bill Skarsgård, Ed Skrein, Linda Lavin, and Tim Blake Nelson.

And finally, Verdugo Entertainment has announced a new Blu-ray box set of Roy Rogers films for release on 11/23, including the newly-remastered Under Western Stars (1938) and Mackintosh and T.J. (1975).

We’ll leave you with a look at the cover artwork for some of the titles mentioned above and more, with Amazon.com pre-order links if available...

Mad Max: The Road Warrior (4K Ultra HD) Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (4K Ultra HD) Mad Max Anthology (4K Ultra HD)

Rick and Morty: Season 5 (Blu-ray Disc) Citizen Kane (Criterion 4K Ultra HD) L.A. Story (Blu-ray Disc)

Stay tuned...!
