Look for this 10-disc/14-film volume to include Chang Cheh’s The One-Armed Swordsman (1967), Return of the One-Armed Swordsman (1969), and The New One-Armed Swordsman (1971), along with Ho Meng-hua’s The Lady Hermit (1971), Chor Yuen’s Intimate Confessions of a Chinese Courtesan (1972), Cheng Kang’s The 14 Amazons (1972), Chor Yuen’s The Magic Blade (1976), Clans of Intrigue (1977), Jade Tiger (1977), and The Sentimental Swordsman (1977), Sun Chung’s The Avenging Eagle (1978), Kuei Chih-hung’s Killer Constable (1980), Taylor Wong’s Buddha’s Palm (1982), and Lu Chun-ku’s Bastard Swordsman (1983). A24 has just announced their own Shop-exclusive Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD release of Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest (2023). That’s due to ship on 7/19. The 4K will include HDR10 high dynamic range. Both offer Dolby Atmos audio. Extras will include the Aleksandra Bystroń-Kołodziejczyk documentary short, a recording of Sunbeams (written and performed by Joseph Wulf), and the 32-minute making-of documentary Filming Zone by Filip Skrońc (available with optional audio commentary).
Kino Lorber Studio Classics has announced a nice surprise: They’re releasing Jean-Pierre Melville’s Bob le Flambeur (1956) in 4K Ultra HD on 8/13.
Paramount has set a wide-release version of Bruce Beresford’s Double Jeopardy (1999) to street in 4K Ultra HD on 8/27. The film was previously released on the format in 2023 as a Paramount Presents title.
Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment is releasing Jon Turteltaub’s The Meg (2018) in 4K Steelbook packaging on 7/2.
Unobstructed View will release Paul Saltzman’s documentary Meeting the Beetles in India (2020) on Blu-ray on 6/25.
Lionsgate is working on the TBA Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release of Renny Harlin’s The Strangers: Chapter 1 (2024).
Sony has set Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024) for pre-order on Blu-ray, DVD, 4K Ultra HD, and 4K UHD Steelbook. The street date is still TBA, but you can see the 4K artwork below.
And Film Masters has announced a Blu-ray double feature of Bill Karn’s Door-to-Door Maniac (1966) and Aram Katcher’s Right Hand of the Devil (1963), each remastered from original elements, for release on 8/27.
In other news today, there’s word that Sony Pictures Entertainment has just acquired ownership of the Austin, Texas-based Alamo Drafthouse Cinema chain. Under the deal, all 35 existing Alamo cinema locations will continue to remain in operation and the chain’s Fantastic Fest film festival will continue as well. The interesting aspect of this deal is that, up until 2020, the 1948 Paramount Consent Decrees would have made studio ownership of such a theater chain illegal. Finally, The Criterion Channel has just announced their July streaming title line-up, and it includes something of a nice surprise—classic Godzilla films from the Heisei era, among them The Return of Godzilla (1984), Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989), Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991), and Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992). You’ll find all those details here on their online blog.
