In announcement news today, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has officially set Scooby-Doo! and Guess Who?: The Complete Second Season for release on DVD only on 6/28. This is the recent HBO Max animated series, featuring 26 more 22-minute episodes.
Lionsgate has set the History Channel’s Great Escapes with Morgan Freeman for release on DVD only on 5/17.
Anti-Worlds has just released Simon Bird’s Days of the Bagnold Summer on “very limited edition” Blu-ray and if you order quickly you can get a signed copy.
RLJE Films will release Paul Solet’s Clean on DVD and Blu-ray on 5/10.
DeskPop Entertainment and Shark Dog Films are releasing The Boys in Red Hats on DVD and Digital on 5/3.
Via Vision Entertainment and Imprint Films have announced their July Blu-ray slate, which will include the Directed by Jim Sheridan: Four Irish Films (1989-1997) box set (featuring My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father, The Boxer, and The Field in its Blu-ray debut), along with The Music of Chance (1993), The Beast (1988), Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead (1993), Nobody’s Fool (1995), and Ken Russell’s Whore (1991). Look for those to street on 7/27.
Via Vision Entertainment has also announced their May Blu-ray and DVD release slate (the non-Imprint Films line), which is set to include Leonardo: Season One (DVD), Monsterland: Season One (DVD), Widows/She’s Out: The Complete Collection (DVD), The Bill: The Complete Series 22 (DVD), Mystery 101: Collection Two (DVD), and Randall and Hopkirk [Deceased]: The Complete Series (DVD) on 5/18, followed by Muhammad Ali: A Film by Ken Burns, Sarah Burns, and David McMahon (Blu-ray and DVD)on 5/25.
And Liberation Hall will release Steven Seagal’s A Dangerous Man on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/24. Their previously-announced Blu-ray and DVD release of RoboCop: The Series will also come out that day (delayed from 5/10) due to packaging issues at the manufacturing plant. Adjust your plans accordingly.
Meanwhile, on the catalog 4K Ultra HD front, George Stevens’ Giant (1956) is now up for pre-order on Amazon.com. The long-anticipated Warner Bros. tile is set to street on 6/12 and we expect the official announcement any day now. You can see the cover artwork above-left and also below.
Here’s something exciting: Ignite Films has announced that they’re going to be releasing the 50s B-movie classic Invaders from Mars (1953), directed by William Cameron Menzies, on 4K Ultra HD this summer. Recently restored for the new TCM Classic Film Festival, Ignite’s limited edition (which carries an SRP of $68) will only be available from the company’s website here in a limited edition of just 1,000 units. It will include an exclusive posted signed by star Jimmy Hunt, along with some interesting extras. You can find that here, but act fast if you want a copy.
And in terms of new theatrical titles, Robert Eggers’ The Northman, which just arrived in theaters, is already available for pre-order on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD from Universal on Amazon. There’s only temp cover art available at the moment, but here’s the pre-order link.
Finally today, in other industry news, Martin Scorsese’s The Film Foundation has revealed that they’re going to be launching a free virtual screening room service to allow the widest possible audience to view the results of some of their great classic film restoration projects. The service will launch on 5/9, with new films dropping on the second Monday of each month. Each will be available for free viewing for a 24-hour window. The first title up will be Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger’s I Know Where I’m Going! (1945). You can read more here at Deadline.
