We’re starting today with three new Blu-ray reviews from Tim, including Synapse Films’ Unearthed & Untold: The Path to Pet Sematary – Special Edition documentary and their Suspiria: Two-Disc Special Edition, as well as Umbrella Entertainment’s Aussie import Suspiria: 40th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray. All three discs, and the reviews, are worth a look.

We’ve also updated the Release Dates & Artwork section with new Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, we greatly appreciate it whenever you shop through our Amazon links – it make a big difference for us here at The Bits.

In release news today, Universal has set Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread for 4K Ultra HD on 5/8, nearly a month after the Blu-ray and DVD release which is currently set for 4/10. [Read on here...]

The reason for the 4K delay is unknown, though it could be that it simply took longer to produce, or that the studio was waiting to see what demand might be compared to regular BD. The Blu-ray editions will include Camera Tests with optional audio commentary by the director and 3 featurettes (For the Hungry Boy, House of Woodcock, and Behind the Scenes). The 4K Ultra HD will feature HDR10 high dynamic range. Both the Blu-ray and 4K versions will feature DTS: X object-based audio. This production was shot natively on 35mm film and finished as a 4K DI, so it should look terrific. We’ve updated the 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits accordingly.

Meanwhile, Amazon is currently taking pre-orders for Fox’s just completed The X-Files: Season 11 on Blu-ray. There’s no street date yet, but you can see the cover artwork below.

Universal will release Sampson on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/15.

Universal will also release Mark Pellington’s Nostalgia, starring John Hamm, Catherine Keener, and Ellen Burstyn, on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/1.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has set Daphne & Velma, an original live-action Scooby-Doo spin-off movie, for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/22.

The Warner Archive has set Les Girls for release on Blu-ray on 4/17.

Cinema Guild is releasing Hong Sangsoo’s On the Beach at Night Alone on Blu-ray on 5/22.

Well Go USA will also release Kim Yong-hwa’s Korean actioner Along with the Gods: Two Worlds on Blu-ray and DVD on 4/10.

Kino Lorber has revealed that it’s working on a new Blu-ray and DVD release of Becky Sharp (1935), mastered from a new 4K scan from the Paramount archives. Street date is TBA. They’re also working on I Walk Alone (1947), starring Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, and Lizabeth Scott, for Blu-ray and DVD release this summer, also mastered in 4K.

Also, Aussie indie distributor Umbrella Entertainment has set a 2-disc Re-Animator: Collector’s Edition for Blu-ray release on 6/6, along with a new Blu-ray double-feature of Bride of Re-Animator and Beyond Re-Animator. Beyond is new to the Blu-ray format.

And a quick note: Some of you may have noticed that there’s a Max Fleischer’s Superman: Collector’s Edition Blu-ray coming on 3/27 from Cinedigm. It’s worth noting, however, that this 1940s classic animated series has not been remastered. We’ve learned recently that Warner has yet to do a new 4K scan of the original elements, so this Cinedigm release is likely to look the same as existing editions. Just FYI.

Here’s a look at the cover artwork for a few of the titles mentioned above and more (click on the covers to pre-order them from Amazon, if available)…
