Another day brings more new disc reviews, and more release and catalog announcement news as well. First, the reviews...

Tim has taken a look at Jesús Franco’s Marquis de Sade’s Philosophy in the Boudoir (1970) in 4K Ultra HD from our friends at Blue Underground.

Dennis has given Curt Siodmak’s Curucu, Beast of the Amazon (1956) a spin on Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome.

And Stephen has checked in with a review of both the regular 4K UHD and 4K Steelbook editions of Walter Hill’s The Driver (1978) from EMI and 20th Century Fox via StudioCanal in the UK.

Stay tuned for more new disc reviews all this week.

Now then, MPI Home Video has made their 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray Mediabook edition of Edward Berger’s All Quiet on the Western Front (2022) official for release on 3/28. We mentioned the title yesterday of course, but now we know that the UHD disc will feature the film with Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. We’re awaiting confirmation of any disc based extras, but we suspect that there are none, thus allowing the film the maximum possible data rates to ensure high A/V quality. [Read on here...]

[3/1 Update: We’ve learned that there will actually be a few extras on the actual discs, including a making of featurette, the teaser trailer, and the theatrical trailer.]

The accompanying Mediabook packaging will, however, include a 24-page booklet that offers two essays—Sharing the German Perspective, a conversation with the director, as well as A Machine of Death Unlike Any Experienced Before, an interview with historian and professor Daniel Schönpflug. You can see the cover artwork above left and also below.

Also today, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has officially set Magic Mike’s Last Dance for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 4/18, with the Digital version available today. Extras will include Magic Mike’s New Moves and a deleted scene. Note that there are currently no plans at this point for a physical 4K UHD release, at least here in the States. You can see the Blu-ray cover art below.

Meanwhile, Lionsgate has officially announced their 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray release of Nicolas Roeg’s The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976) starring David Bowie. Look for that to arrive as a Best Buy exclusive in Steelbook packaging on 4/25. We would imagine a wide-release Amaray SKU will follow later in the year. (The title is also now available from StudioCanal in 4K Steelbook via this link on Amazon.co.uk.)

Extras will include a French TV interview with Bowie from 1977, The Lost Soundtracks featurette, legacy interviews with costume designer May Routh, stills photographer David James, Bowie fan Sam Taylor-Johnson, producer Michael Deely, actress Candy Clark, writer Paul Mayersberg, cinematographer Tony Richmond, and the director, and the theatrical trailer. Here’s a look at the Best Buy-exclusive packaging...

The Man Who Fell to Earth (Best Buy-exclusive 4K Ultra HD)

And finally today, CBS and Paramount have officially announced the DVD release of Star Trek: Lower Decks – Season 3 on 4/25. What’s confusing about this is that the press release indicates that the season will also be available as a “manufactured on demand” (or MOD) Blu-ray. But of course, the Blu-ray isn’t yet available for pre-order anywhere.

This isn’t actually that uncommon these days. For example, Paramount released Jack Ryan: Seasons 1 & 2 Blu-ray first, then released them on manufactured on demand 4K Ultra HD later. They also released Station Eleven and Reacher on Blu-ray and DVD, as well as MOD 4K the same day. These are regular manufactured discs (not BD-ROMs), just produced in smaller batch runs as demand requires.

Our guess is that a Blu-ray pre-order listing will be added soon on Amazon and elsewhere, either for the same street date or a few weeks later. We’ve asked Paramount to clarify, and we’ll post an update here as soon as we have it. In the meantime, you can see the DVD cover art below.

That’s all for now. Back tomorrow with more.

Stay tuned...
