Hey everyone! Well... another week is officially in the can and, as promised, I’ve got an update for you on some release news and whatnot.

First up, I wanted to alert you to a 4K Ultra HD deal: Amazon currently has Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite available in 4K for just $11.00 for a limited time only. So click here to order a copy if you’re interested.

Also today, we’ve got a great new History, Legacy & Showmanship column from our own Michael Coate—one that was delayed from the very end of 2020 due to all of the site maintenance we’ve been doing over the past several weeks. This one is a terrific look back at the early 70mm cut of The Empire Strikes Back, featuring a new roundtable discussion with historian and soundtrack producer Mike Matessino along with director Saul Pincus. We think you’ll really enjoy it, so do give that a look here.

Now then, in announcement news today, Severin Films has revealed that it’s working on a new 4K Ultra HD release of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s Santa Sangre (1989) that’s due on 4/27. The title will also be released on Blu-ray and DVD. You can see the cover artwork for the 4K at left. Click here to pre-order on Amazon: 4K, Blu-ray, DVD.

But that’s not the only 4K catalog title we now know is coming from our retail sources... [Read on here...]

Paramount is preparing to release Cecil B. DeMille’s The Ten Commandments (1956) on the format on 3/30, followed by George Cukor’s My Fair Lady (1964) on 5/4, and JJ Abrams’ Super 8 (2011) on 5/25. Please note that these dates are to be considered tentative and subject to change. We’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits accordingly.

There’s also been some early indications that Paramount is working with Lucasfilm to release the Indiana Jones films on 4K Ultra HD this summer. We know from our industry sources that a release is in the works, but the question is: Will it arrive in stores this summer, later for the holidays, or perhaps in early 2022 closer to the planned release of Indiana Jones 5 in theaters? So consider anything you may be seeing or reading online with regard to that 4K release very speculative for now. We will, of course, post more as we’re able to confirm anything.

Now then... the BIG news today is that our friends at the Criterion Collection have just unveiled their April 2021 Blu-ray and DVD release slate. Look for it to include Frank Borzage’s History Is Made at Night (Spine #1072 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 4/13, an updating of Anthony Mann’s The Furies (Spine #435 – Blu-ray and DVD) and Bong Joon-ho’s Memories of Murder (Spine #1073 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 4/20, and Olivier Assayas’s Irma Vep (Spine #1074 – Blu-ray and DVD) and an updating of Jean-Luc Godard’s Masculin féminin (Spine #308 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 4/27. You can read more about each of them here at the Criterion website and we’ve updated our Criterion Spines Project pages here at The Bits accordingly.

In other news today, the Warner Archive Collection has announced the Blu-ray release of Pump Up the Volume, On Moonlight Bay, Show Boat, and My Dream Is Yours for 2/23.

Lionsgate has set The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee for Blu-ray and DVD release on 2/16.

We’re still checking with Universal on a possible physical 4K Ultra HD release of Greenland. As we’ve reported previously, the film is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on 2/9 from Universal and STX Films. Greenland seems like such an obvious title for physical 4K, but this could be a situation like what we saw with the aforementioned Parasite, where the studio holds off on 4K initially and ends up shooting themselves in the foot by releasing one only months later. We’ll have to wait and see.

And finally today, Imprint Films has another new batch of Paramount catalog titles coming to all-region Blu-ray on 3/5, including Black Sunday, The Bridges at Toko-ri, Five, The Apostle, The Bad News Bears, and Breakdown. The company is also re-issuing some of their previous Blu-ray titles at a more affordable price on 2/26, including Waterloo, Sorry, Wrong Number, I Married a Monster from Outer Space, and The Duellists. Click on each title in this paragraph to pre-order them on Amazon.com.

That’s all for now. See you back here on Monday with more.

Stay tuned...!
