We’ve got a quick update for you today, and then I’ll be back tomorrow with a long special feature piece here at The Bits.

First though, we’ve got a couple of disc reviews as follows:

Tim has just posted his thoughts on John Carpenter’s Escape from L.A.: Collector’s Edition on Blu-ray from Scream Factory.

He’s also posted a review of Stephen Hopkins’ Judgment Night (1993) on Blu-ray from the Warner Archive Collection.

We’re kicking off the week with a pair of new Blu-ray reviews...

We start with David Steigman’s take on the William Castle classic The Tingler (1959), starring Vincent Price, now available on Blu-ray from Scream Factory.

We’ve also got David Seuling’s look at Robert M. Young’s The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez (1982), as newly released on Blu-ray from The Criterion Collection.

Both are worth a look, so check out the reviews and give them a shot.

All right, we’ve got a pair of new disc reviews for you…

Tim has taken a look at Lionsgate’s recent Vestron Video Collector’s Series titles, including Dagon and Beyond Re-Animator. Both are worth your consideration, so enjoy the reviews!

Also today, don’t forget that I’ll be at Comic-Con this evening to host the Breaking News from Shout! Factory and Scream Factory panel with Brian Ward and Jeff Nelson. The panel runs from 7-8PM in Room 32AB and there’s a whole bunch of great titles going to be announced! Trust me, I’ve seen the list. You guys are going to dig these. We’ll also have Q&A and a lot of fun, so be sure to join us if you’re down in San Diego tomorrow.

All right, the big news today is that, as we first revealed here at The Bits several weeks ago, Disney and Pixar are indeed releasing Brad Bird’s The Incredibles on 4K Ultra HD on 6/12, in support of the theatrical release of The Incredibles 2 that same week. It looks like the 4K release will include Dolby Atmos audio and will also include the Blu-ray edition with all its special features. Note that Best Buy is going to have an exclusive Steelbook version of the title. [Update: It appears that Best Buy is listing the Steelbook 4K version as streeting on 6/5. It’s possible that the wide release will be 6/5 as well, and not 6/12 as currently listed. We expect official details soon from the studio and we’ll update this information then.]

This would mark the very first time that Disney has gone back to release a deeper catalog title on the 4K format (not just a new theatrical release). Here’s hoping we see many more Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars catalog titles released in 4K soon.

All right, just a quick one today with some news and a couple items of interest...

First, Warner Bros. has officially announced Clint Eastwood’s The 15:17 to Paris for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/22, with a “4K Digital” release due on 5/1. Yes, it appears the studio has decided not to release an actual 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray version of this one. Extras on the Blu-ray will include 2 featurettes (Making Every Second Count and Portrait of Courage). You can see the cover artwork at left and below.

Warner has also set Alex & Me for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/19, with the Digital release expected on 6/12. Extras will include 3 featurettes (Getting to Know Alex, Aspire to Inspire: Success in Hard Work, and Soccer, Script to Set: A Playbook on Alex & Me) and an outtake. [Read on here...]

All right, we’ve got another release news update for you to round out the week. So let’s get right to it…

First up, Warner Bros. has set The LEGO Ninjago Movie for release on Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 12/19.

Lionsgate’s next pair of Vestron Video Collector’s Series Blu-ray titles, due on 1/30, are Class of 1999 and Gothic.

Only the Brave is apparently coming from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on Blu-ray, DVD and possibly 4K on 2/6/18. Pre-orders for the first two formats are now open on Amazon.com. [Read on here…]

We’ve got another couple of disc reviews for you today. First, I’ve updated Tim Salmons’ Blu-ray review of Alex Garland’s Ex Machina to cover Liongate’s new 4K Ultra HD release, due on 6/6. It’s selling for just $16.77 right now on Amazon.

Tim has also taken a look at Umbrella Entertainment’s Australian but Region Free double feature of Electric Boogaloo & Machete Maidens Unleashed! on Blu-ray. Enjoy!

In release news today, it appears (based on numerous retail sources and pre-order listings) that Warner’s Kong: Skull Island has been set for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 7/18. We’re waiting on official specs, details, and cover artwork from the studio. [Read on here…]

There’s a bunch more great new release news today, so here goes...

First up, our friends at The Criterion Collection have announced their July slate of releases, and I’m thrilled to say that they include Andrei Tarkovsky’s Russian sci-fi film Stalker (Cat #888 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 7/18! Also coming are Robert Bresson’s L’argent (Cat #886 – Blu-ray, DVD, and Hulu Plus) and Roberto Rossellini’s War Trilogy (Cat #500 – Blu-ray and DVD – includes Rome Open City, Paisan, and Germany Year Zero) on 7/11, as well as Albert Brooks’ 1985 satire Lost in America (Cat #887 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 7/25. We’ll take all the classic Russian cinema on Blu-ray I can get, science fiction especially, and the more the merrier. Now then, in announcement news today, Lionsgate has just revealed that their next Vestron Video Collector’s Series release will include the Wishmaster Collection: 4-Film Set on 3/28 (SRP $49.99). Wishmaster will include audio commentary (with director Robert Kurtzman and screenwriter Peter Atkins), audio commentary (with Kurtzman and stars Andrew Divoff and Tammy Lauren), an isolated score selections track with an audio interview of composer Harry Manfredini, 6 featurettes (Out of the Bottle, The Magic Words, The Djinn and Alexandra, Captured Visions, Wish List, and Making of Wishmaster), trailers, TV spots, image galleries & more. Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies will include audio commentary (with writer/director Jack Sholder), a trailer, and a still gallery. Wishmaster 3: Beyond the Gates of Hell will include audio commentary (with director Chris Angel and cast members John Novak, Jason Connery, and Louisette Geiss), the Making of Wishmaster 3: Beyond the Gates of Hell featurette, and the trailer.
