All right, we’ve got a few things to share with you today here at The Digital Bits...

Also, before we get to new release news for this afternoon, today marks the 46th anniversary of the theatrical release of George Lucas’ original Star Wars (1977). It’s also the 43rd anniversary of Richard Marquand’s Return of the Jedi (1983) and the 44th anniversary of Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979). We have just a quick update for you today here at The Bits with some interesting release news, plus a few odds and ends related to titles we’ve learned from our industry sources are likely forthcoming in the months ahead.

First of all, the big news: Paramount has officially set Peter Weir’s The Truman Show (1998) for 4K Ultra HD release on 7/4 in honor of the film’s 25th anniversary. The disc is mastered from a new 4K scan of the original camera negative approved by the director and it will feature Dolby Vision HDR, as well as a new Dolby Atmos sound mix.

Extras will include the previous legacy features, among them the 2-part How’s It Going to End? The Making of The Truman Show documentary, the Faux Finishing: The Visual Effects of The Truman Show featurette, deleted scenes, a photo gallery, theatrical trailers, and TV spots. We’ve got quite a bit of ground to cover here at The Bits today to wind down the week, starting with a pair of new disc reviews...

Tim has offered his thoughts on Russell Mulcahy’s Razorback (1984) on Blu-ray from Scream Factory.

And Dennis has taken a look at Cecile B. DeMille’s The Crusades (1935) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

Now then, we’ve got quite a lot of great new 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray release news to report today, starting with our friends at The Criterion Collection, who have just announced their July slate. [Read on here...]

We’ve got another new disc review for you, or technically two of them: Stephen has checked out George A. Romero’s Martin (1977), which is now available in 4K Ultra HD and 4K Ultra HD Limited Edition from the good folks at Second Sight in the UK. And Stephen has taken a look at both versions for your reading convenience. This is an import release and note that the Blu-ray in the package is Region B only.

Now then, we have a couple of big studio announcements to cover for you today...

First up, Marvel Studios and Disney have officially set Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 5/16, with the Digital release expected on 4/18. The 4K SKU will feature HDR10 high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos audio (while the Blu-ray will include 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio).

Extras on all versions will include audio commentary with Reed and writer Jeff Loveness, a gag reel, 2 deleted scenes, and a pair of featurettes (All in the Family and Formidable Foes). You can see the cover artwork at left and also below the break.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and DC have also just set David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 5/23, with the Digital release due tomorrow on 4/7. Both the Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD will feature Dolby Atmos audio, while the 4K will include both HDR10 and Dolby Vision high dynamic range. [Read on here...]

We’re finishing the week off with a trio of new disc reviews here at The Bits...

Tim has reviewed another film in Arrow’s Shawscope: Volume One Blu-ray box set, specifically Chang Cheh and Hsueh Li Pao’s The Boxer from Shantung (1972).

Stephen has taken a look at Todd Haynes’ music documentary The Velvet Underground (2021) on Blu-ray from The Criterion Collection.

And Stephen and yours truly have given Ryan Coogler’s latest MCU installment Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) a spin on 4K Ultra HD from Marvel and Disney.

In terms of catalog release news today, our retail sources are reporting that Paramount will be bringing F. Gary Gray’s The Italian Job (2003) remake and Antoine Fuqua’s Shooter (2007)—a wide-release Amaray, as the film was released as a 4K Steelbook last year—to Ultra HD likely on 5/16. We’ve confirmed that Mimi Leder’s Deep Impact (1998) is coming to 4K as well in the next few months (street date is TBD). [Read on here...]
