Good morning, dear readers! I trust this post finds you all in a better mood than the one I’m currently experiencing. I’m stuck at a car dealership getting a recalled part replaced and drinking really lousy coffee out of a styrofoam cup. (Which is why I posted the picture of Terry Gilliam today - he looks the way I feel right now in that picture.) But... at least there’s wifi. To quote Russell Crowe from a favorite film of mine, “What a fascinating modern age we live in.” Points if you can guess which film on our Facebook page.

Anyway, there may or may not be more news today than what I’ve got for you here, but this is what I have access too from the service center waiting room. I’ll update you on anything else tomorrow. Meanwhile, here’s what’s what for now… [Read on here…]

We’ve just a quick one for you today, as there’s not a lot of announcement news to report. But let’s clear the decks on what there is first…

Lionsgate has announced the 10/28 release of Life of Crime and The Prince on Blu-ray, DVD and digital.

Shout! Factory will release the animated Thunder and the House of Magic on Blu-ray 3D Combo and DVD on 9/30.  [Read on here…]

We have one more quick news update for you this afternoon, with word that Criterion has just announced their December Blu-ray and DVD release slate. Look for Todd Haynes’ Safe on 12/9 (Cat #739 – Blu-ray and DVD), along with upgraded editions of Terry Gilliam’s Time Bandits (Cat #37 – Blu-ray and DVD) and Liliana Cavani’s The Night Porter (Cat #59 – Blu-ray and DVD – the film will also appear on Hulu Plus). These will be followed on 12/16 by a new Eclipse DVD release featuring the work of director Keisuke Kinoshita – Eclipse Series 41: Kinoshita and World War II (which includes the films Port of Flowers, The Living Magoroku, Jubilation Street, Army, and Morning for the Osone Family, made between 1943 and 1946).  [Read on here…]

Before we get to that, however, our very own Dr. Adam Jahnke has turned in this week’s Burnt Offerings: MOD DVD column featuring a rundown of the latest DVD-R and Blu-ray release news from our friends at the Warner Archive.  As usual, Adam’s also reviewed a new title from the Archive too – this week it’s the Coen Brothers’ classic The Hudsucker Proxy on Blu-ray.  Enjoy!

Now then… Shout! and Scream Factory have set The Vincent Price Collection for Blu-ray release on 10/22, and we now have final details on bonus content for each film in the set!  Here’s what to expect...  […]

Let’s get right to the announcement news today...

Shout! and Scream Factory are going to release John Carpenter’s Body Bags and Assault on Precinct 13 on Blu-ray Combo on 11/12 and 11/19 respectively.  Extras on Body Bags will include three audio commentary tracks, interviews with Carpenter and the actors and the trailer.  Assault on Precinct 13 extras are still in development.

Sony has announced a number of new MOD Manufactured on Demand titles for release on DVD-R on 10/1, including Whatever, Gidget Gets Married, Kiss Me, Kill Me, The Comic, Air Hostess (1933), Babies for Sale, The Unwelcome Stranger, Made in Italy, Party of Five: The Complete Sixth Season and Happy Endings: The Complete Third Season[…]
