Creed III, Arrow’s Mallrats & Waterworld in 4K, Shout/Scream’s Creepshow & Motel Hell in 4K, plus Dungeons & Dragons and much more
Welcome to the first week of April, everyone!
As you might expect, over the weekend we’ve posted several more new disc reviews for you all to enjoy, including...
My reviews of Jonathan Frakes’ Star Trek: Insurrection (1998) and Stuart Baird’s Star Trek: Nemesis (2002) in 4K Ultra HD from Paramount. That completes my look at all four of the newly-remastered Star Trek: The Next Generation feature films in 4K.
Stuart’s thoughts on Clarence Brown’s Wife vs. Secretary (1936) on Blu-ray from the Warner Archive Collection and Milton Moses Ginsberg’s The Werewolf of Washington (1973) on Blu-ray from Kino Classics.
And last but certainly not least, Stephen’s in-depth review of Wilfred Jackson, Hamilton Luske, and Clyde Geronimi’s original classic animated Cinderella (1950) in 4K Ultra HD from Disney, currently available from the Disney Movie Club, but coming widely later this year.
Key note about Cinderella—it looks like Disney’s actually done this one right, with a stunning 4K remaster that respects the film’s original photochemical production by leaving its line-work, fine detail, and grain structure fully intact! This really bodes well for future 4K animated titles from the studio, and one certainly hopes that all of these original animated classics will be revisited on the format going forward. Criterion’s June slate includes films by Mazursky, Keaton, Sciamma, Ichikawa & Klimov
All right, we’ll be back in just a little bit with a link to Michael Coate’s new History, Legacy & Showmanship film retrospective in a little bit.
[Editor’s Note: Here’s the link to Michael’s new retrospective of the James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun, in honor of the film’s 45th anniversary. Note that this piece was unavoidably delayed from late last year, but we think you’ll find the wait was worth it. Michael is joined by historians Jon Burlingame, John Cork, and Lee Pfeiffer for a great roundtable discussion. Enjoy!]
In the meantime, Tim has posted a new Blu-ray review today, this one of Fred Walton’s 1986 April Fool’s Day: Collector’s Edition from Scream Factory. The disc streets on 3/24.
And we do have some new announcement news for you... [Read on here...]

Criterion's June includes Hard Day's Night, plus Veronica Mars, Jack Ryan & more!
All right, I’m getting a little bit of a late start today after spending the morning at the dentist. Yeah. One of those days.
Anyway, the big news for today is that Criterion has officially revealed their June BD/DVD slate and, though it’s getting cliché to keep saying it every month, it’s another great list of titles. It starts with new HD updatings of Douglas Sirk’s All That Heaven Allows (Spine #95) and Michelangelo Antonioni’s L’Eclisse (Spine #278) on 6/10, followed by an updating of Peter Davis’ Hearts and Minds (Spine #156), the new Georges Franju’s Judex (Spine #710), and an updating of Peter Weir’s Picnic at Hanging Rock (Spine #29) on 6/17. As if that wasn’t great enough, Richard Lester’s The Beatles: A Hard Day’s Night (Spine #711) rounds things out on 6/24. SRP for each of them is $39.95. Be sure to visit Criterion.com for a complete list of all the great extras. Meanwhile, you’ll find the cover artwork below. [Read on here...]
