Warner makes The Maltese Falcon, Cool Hand Luke & Rebel Without a Cause official for 4K on 4/4, plus more reviews, news & announcements
We’ve got a couple more new disc reviews for you today, and a bit more Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD release news as well...
He’s also reviewed Michael Stanley’s Attack of the Beast Creatures (1985) on Blu-ray Disc from our friends over at AGFA and Vinegar Syndrome.
And while it’s not a disc review, I posted my non-spoiler thoughts on Star Trek: Picard – Season Three here at The Bits last night (in case you missed them). The first episode of the new season is now available for streaming on Paramount+, and all I can say is that there had better be a 4K Ultra HD release forthcoming from Paramount Home Entertainment. (Because I want it!) Enjoy!
Now then, Disney sources have officially confirmed that Cinderella (1950) will be released on 4K Ultra HD widely in stores and from online retailers on 8/1. However, note that the title will be also available as a limited Disney Movie Club exclusive for a few months starting on 3/28. So if you want to get your hands on it earlier, DMC is your ticket. Cheers comes to Blu-ray, plus more Bonanza on DVD, new WB 100th box sets, and Star Trek TNG & Superman 4K box art!
All right, we’ve got a bunch of interesting release news to report here at The Bits this afternoon...
First, CBS and Paramount Home Entertainment have set Cheers: The Complete Series for release on Blu-ray Disc on 4/25 (SRP $129.99). This will be a 33-disc box set that includes all 270 episode of the series’ 11 seasons. You can see the cover artwork at left and also below.
While we’re on the subject of Paramount, retail and distributor sources are confirming that the studio will be releasing Mimi Leder’s Deep Impact (1998) on 4K Ultra HD in the coming months. This is in addition to The Italian Job (2003) and Shooter (2007), which we’ve mentioned previously. We believe the street date for Deep Impact will be sometime in May, but that’s still TBD.
Fans of classic Western TV series will also be pleased to know that CBS and Paramount are finally planning to release Bonanza: The Complete Twelfth Season and a Bonanza: The Complete Series box set soon, all on DVD. Street dates for those are TBA as well, but both are already listed in some online retailer databases. We would assume that The Complete Thirteenth Season and The Complete Fourteenth Season will follow on DVD eventually too. [Read on here...]

BREAKING 4K news: We’ve got cover art for the Star Trek TNG films, plus Warner’s Maltese Falcon, Cool Hand Luke, Rebel Without a Cause, Rio Bravo & more!
All right, we’ve got a LOT of ground to cover today for you 4K Ultra HD catalog fans, especially those of you who like new cover artwork (because we’ve got a bunch for it for you). But first as always, we’ve got a couple more new disc reviews for you to check out...
First, Dennis has checked out Sidney Lanfield’s Sorrowful Jones (1949) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.
Tim has also reviewed Rafael Romero Marchent’s Santo vs Dr. Death (1973) on Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome.
Now then, let’s get to come 4K catalog news. We’ll start with a quickie: Our friends at Kino Lorber Studio Classics have confirmed over the weekend that they’re working on a 4K UHD release of Stephen King’s Cujo (1983), as directed by Lewis Teague. As usual, look for the new master to include a Dolby Vision HDR grade.
Any Star Trek fans in the house? Well, we have your first look at the 4K Ultra HD cover artwork for Paramount’s forthcoming Star Trek: The Next Generation catalog films: Generations (1994), First Contact (1996), Insurrection (1998), and Nemesis (2002). [Read on here...]

The Fabelmans is official for 2/14, plus new Warner 4K catalog titles & street dates, and a Titanic 4K update
We’re rounding out the week here at The Bits with a few more new disc reviews, and some release news as well, including word of new 4K catalog titles, and updates on a title or two that we’ve talked about here previously in recent weeks. But first those reviews...
I’ve posted my thoughts on Wim Wenders’ stunning Wings of Desire (1987) which is now available in 4K Ultra HD from Curzon Film in the UK. The 4K remaster, which was done by the Wim Wenders Foundation, is absolutely stunning. Fans of the film may not realize this, but by the time the film was completed and being shown in theaters back in ‘87, the version we all experienced then was fully six generations away from original camera negative. But now, every inch of this film—save for the little bit of historical and newsreel footage that appears within it—is first-generation right off the negative. And it makes a huge difference, even over the previous Criterion Blu-ray. So if you’re a fan, this 4K release is definitely worth a look.
I’ve also reviewed Jack Ryan: Season Two on 4K Ultra HD, which was released last month on the format by Paramount (along with Season One which we’ve reviewed here). Season Three of the series recently dropped on Amazon Prime and we have word that it’s coming to both Blu-ray and 4K as well later this year.
Also today, Stephen has turned in his thoughts on Adam Rifkin’s The Invisible Maniac on 4K Ultra HD from Vinegar Syndrome.
And we have more reviews on the way as well. I’m personally working on Shout! Factory’s recent WarGames and HBO’s House of the Dragon: Season One, both in 4K Ultra HD. I hope to post those reviews over the weekend or early next week. And the rest of the review team is working on new titles as well, so be sure to watch for them. [Read on here...]
