We’ve got a quick one for you today...

First up, we have a trio of new disc reviews. Tim Salmons has checked out Shout! Factory’s new Mystery Science Theater 3000: Volume 1 DVD reissue a look. Jim Hemphill has done the same for Kino Lorber’s recent Blu-ray release of The Reivers (1969), starring Steve McQueen. Finally, I’ve given Disney’s new Star Wars: Rebels – Complete Season One a spin on Blu-ray and found it to be surprisingly fun and engaging, not just for kids of classic trilogy fans of all ages. All right, we’ve got a bit of ground to cover today. As you may be aware, I’ve been away for a few days. Specifically, my wife and I were attending a family gathering (of my brothers and sister, plus significant others) in Chicago this past weekend. Sarah and I also just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary yesterday. So things have been a little busy here, as you can imagine, but good busy!

Meanwhile, our own Jim Hemphill did post a review of Kino Lorber’s Defiance on Blu-ray on Friday afternoon. Tim Salmons also took some time on Monday to honor the passing of a director and horror film legend we all greatly admire here at The Bits: Wes Craven. The man who gave us The Last House on the Left, The Hills Have Eyes, Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream, and many more died of cancer on Sunday. The big news today is that Disney and Marvel have now officially set Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron for Blu-ray 3D Combo, Blu-ray Combo and DVD release on 10/2, with the digital release expected on 9/8. Extras on the Blu-ray seem to still be TBA, but are expected to include audio commentary, deleted scenes, a series or “making of” featurettes, and a gag reel. You can see the regular Blu-ray cover artwork to the left and also below. Blu-ray 3D cover artwork is still TBA.  [Read on here…]
