All right, we’ve got a couple things for you here at The Bits today...

First though, my apologies for being MIA for the last couple of days. We had family visiting this weekend and unfortunately they brought with them a plague-level case of the flu. Pretty much everyone ended up getting sick, including yours truly. I’ve literally been laid up in bed since Sunday. Get your flu shots, folks. I wish I had. The flu’s a bad one this year. Anyway, I’m about a good strong 60% right now, which is enough for me to get a couple things posted here on the site, starting with this...

Our own Michael Coate has just turned in a great new History, Legacy & Showmanship column here at The Bits celebrating the 50th anniversary of Mike Nichols’ The Graduate. The piece features a look back at the film’s original release and also a new interview with historian Beverly Gray. It’s worth your time, so do give it a look. [Read on here…]

Also here at The Bits today, we’ve posted the weekly update of the Release Dates & Artwork section, featuring all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links. Whenever you’re looking to shop for literally anything via Amazon, we’d appreciate it if you clicked through one of our links first – and thank you for doing so!

Now then, I’ll have more announcement news for you tomorrow, and some reviews too, but today there’s this...Sony Picture Home Entertainment has just announced that The Dark Crystal is coming to 4K Ultra HD on 3/6, and it’s returning to that day on DVD and Blu-ray as well in a new anniversary edition. The 4K will feature Dolby Atmos audio. The Blu-ray will come in 24-page Digipack packaging. Extras will include the all-new The Myth, Magic and Henson Legacy featurette (with stories by Lisa Henson and Toby Froud), plus all the previous extras including deleted scenes, audio commentary with Brian Froud, the Picture-in-Picture storyboard track, original Skeksis language scenes (with introduction by screenwriter David Odell), The World of The Dark Crystal documentary, 2 Reflections of The Dark Crystal featurettes (Light on the Path of Creation and Shard of Illusion), photo galleries, the teaser trailer, and the theatrical trailer. You can see the BD cover artwork above left and we’ve updated The 4K Ultra HD Release List accordingly.

Fans should note that The Dark Crystal is also making a rare return to theaters nationwide in a two-night presentation from Fathom Events on 2/25 and 2/28, featuring an exclusive interview with Lisa Henson. Tickets are available at FathomEvents.com.

By the way, we do not yet have our hands on Warner’s Christopher Nolan Collection in 4K Ultra HD, but as we do we’ll get started on reviewing the rest of those titles. We don’t believe there’s a delay, they’re just a little behind in manufacturing and shipping.

Back tomorrow with more. Stay tuned…
