Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is coming to 4K in March (also Rise of Skywalker is pretty good)

All right, we’ll have more to report tomorrow on The Bits, but I wanted to jump in here quickly this evening with word from retail sources that Disney will release Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga as a 9-film, 27-disc 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray box set on 3/31/2020.

Here’s the thing: We know for sure that Best Buy will have an exclusive SKU (here’s a link to a Best Buy Canada listing for the title). What we don’t know yet is if the entire box set is Best Buy exclusive, or if Best Buy will just have exclusive packaging.

But that obviously means Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will street on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 3/31/2020 as well. [Read on here...]

This set does not appear to include Solo: A Star Wars Story (which is already available on 4K), nor will it include Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, so Rogue One will likely be available on 4K separately that same day.

Meanwhile, Rian Johnson’s Knives Out will street on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K from Lionsgate on 2/25/2020.

And Sony’s Jumanji: The Next Level will street on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K on 3/17/2020.

Keep in mind, these dates are to be considered tentative until the studios in question make their official announcements.

One more thing this evening: I spent my afternoon today at a press screening for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. I’ll say more about the film in time. The review embargo lifts tonight, but I really want to make sure that you all get the chance to see it for yourselves before I post a full review. I will make just a couple of quick non-spoilery comments now though. First, I was very entertained by the film, and largely satisfied by it. I think it pays off the sequel trilogy nicely and is actually a better film because of the choices made in The Last Jedi. It also makes both that film and The Force Awakens better in retrospect. Second, I strongly urge you to avoid reviews and spoilers before you see it. Just go and give it a chance to do it’s thing. That’s my two cents for now.

Anyway, back with more probably tomorrow. In the meantime, stay tuned…!
