Also today, we would certainly be remiss if we didn’t take a moment to acknowledge the passing on Saturday of the legendary screen actor Sean Connery.
Connery first came to prominence for many as James Bond in Dr. No (1963). But in addition to his seven appearances as 007, just look at some of these other highlights from his long list of screen credits: Marnie (1964), The Hill (1965), Murder on the Orient Express (1974), Zardoz (1974), The Wind and the Lion (1975), The Man Who Would Be King (1975), A Bridge Too Far (1977), Meteor (1979), Outland (1981), Time Bandits (1981), Highlander (1986), The Name of the Rose (1986), The Untouchables (1987), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990), The Russia House (1990), Dragonheart (1996), The Rock (1996), Playing by Heart (1998), Finding Forrester (2000), and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003).
And that doesn’t count his TV work for the BBC. To me personally, one of his finest screen performances was as Captain Marko Ramius in John McTiernan’s Cold War thriller The Hunt for Red October (1990). In fact, when news of Connery’s passing broke on Saturday morning, I felt compelled to rewatch the film again in 4K (and I appreciate it more each time).
Whatever your personal favorite of his roles, Connery made a significant mark on generations of filmgoers. Now he sails into history... and will long be remembered. Connery was 90. You can read more here at The New York Times.
