This is just a quick update to say that there’s going to be no news post today. But the reason is a good one.

First though, over the weekend I posted my in-depth reviews of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions, and The Matrix Trilogy in 4K Ultra HD here at The Bits.

Like The Matrix in UHD before it, these sequels arrive on the format in fine quality with impressively upgraded image quality and reference-quality Dolby Atmos audio mixes.

They’re definitely recommended, though with the qualification that a few features from the previous The Ultimate Matrix Collection Blu-ray set do not carry over. The details are in the review. [Read on here...]

In addition to this, I also posted my in-depth review of the Universal Classic Monsters: Complete 30-Film Collection Blu-ray Disc box set, which is a release I’ve been waiting for a very long time. I actually have something of a personal connection to the set, as its genesis goes back to a conversation I had with the then head of Universal Studios Home Entertainment at an industry conference back in 2010. So it’s very satisfying to see it finally out in full remastered Blu-ray quality.

Note that I will update my review of the Creature from the Black Lagoon: Complete Legacy Collection Blu-ray set when I get my hands on the fixed Revenge of the Creature/The Creature Walks Among Us disc from Universal. But do know that copies of the 30-Film Collection now in stores should be the fixed versions, and I expect the Creature set to be available again soon. And fixed replacement discs should be shipping to those who requested them in the next couple of weeks.

Now then... the reason there’s not going to be a news post today is that – not five minutes ago – 2001: A Space Odyssey arrived for review in 4K Ultra HD from Warner. So I’m going to be spending most of the day with that. And I will have that review posted before the end of the day today. Tomorrow was originally going to be the street date, but Warner has officially delayed it to 11/20. Nevertheless, Amazon and other retailers shipped many copies out to those who pre-ordered early over the weekend. So some of you either already have it or will soon. Anyway, watch for my review tonight.

What’s more, review discs of Warner’s Batman: The Complete Animated Series on Blu-ray set have just arrived too, so as soon as I’m done with 2001, I’ll be diving straight into that. That review might take a little longer, but with a little luck I hope to post it tomorrow, which is street date.

And once I get through that, we’re going to have a flood of additional Blu-ray reviews for you through the end of the week.

Plus there will be a new History, Legacy & Showmanship column for you all on Halloween from our own Michael Coate.

Whew!

So just know that reviews are coming... and if I’m a little difficult to reach over the next 24-48 hours, you’ll know why.

Stay tuned... and watch for those reviews!
