Today’s news update here at The Digital Bits is a quick one, with one new disc review and a couple pieces of release news to close out the week. First, that review...

Tim has turned in his in-depth thoughts on The Outer Limits: Season Two (1964-65) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics. And don’t forget that he reviewed Season One on Blu-ray just yesterday. Both are great box sets, packed with audio commentaries and rare extras, and are well worth a look.

Now then, the only major piece of announcement news we have today is that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just set P.J. Hogan’s romantic comedy My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997) for release on 4K Ultra HD on 12/13.

The 4K presentation has been remastered from the original camera negative and will feature Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. All of the legacy Blu-ray features will be included, and—just for this release—the studio had added an alternate ending and nearly 20 minutes of deleted scenes, all never-before-seen. You can see the cover artwork above left. [Read on here...]

In other news today, Amazon.fr is showing a 4K Ultra HD catalog release of Bruce Beresford’s Double Jeopardy (1999) on 1/4/23 in France. This is a Paramount title, thus it’s possible that it could be released here in the States eventually as well. The title has been available in 4K Digital for a while now.

Also, StudioCanal is getting ready to release John Guillermin’s King Kong (1976) in France on 4K Ultra HD on 11/23 in Steelbook packaging. We don’t yet know if it’s coming to the US too.

And Vice Press in the UK is preparing to release the first in a series of 4K Ultra HD Limited Editions of select Warner Bros. and Universal Studios catalog titles, including Blade Runner, Goodfellas, Scarface, and 1917. The line is branded as The Film Vault.

Finally today, we’re nearly done with our latest round of site upgrades here at The Bits, but it appears now that we’ve got another round of maintenance work ahead of us in early 2023—work that’s necessary to keep the site going for many years to come. So if you appreciate what we do here at The Bits to support physical media, or you’ve enjoyed our coverage of DVD, Blu-ray, 4K, and Digital over the past 25 years, or maybe you just enjoy the news and disc reviews, we’d be grateful if you considered making a contribution to the site via PayPal. We certainly appreciate the support, and it definitely helps us to keep on keeping on. Just click this link (or the button below) to do so.

And of course, any time you order literally anything from Amazon after clicking through to them from one of our affiliate links (like this one, or the cover art we share regularly), that helps as well. So thank you!

All right, that’s all for today. See you back here on Monday.

Stay tuned...
