All right, yesterday was a busy one. Seems like I can either get an in-depth Blu-ray review done, or a daily column, but sometimes not both! I went for the Blu-ray review, as you can probably guess, and the result was my look at Disney’s new Aladdin: Diamond Edition. The disc arrived in stores yesterday. Going through the previous Platinum Edition DVD item by item, to confirm what was on the Blu-ray and what wasn’t (most of it did carry over), took forever. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the review and if you decide to purchase the disc, please consider ordering through our Amazon links.  [Read on here…]

Also, Tim’s turned in more of his Halloween Hangover Blu-ray reviews. Yesterday, he posted a look at Scream Factory’s Tales from the Crypt Presents: Bordello of Blood – Collector’s Edition. Today, he’s got his thoughts on Arrow (UK) Video’s Region B Blu-ray of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2: Limited Edition. hope you enjoy!

And we’ve also posted the weekly update of the Release Dates & Artwork section, featuring all the latest Blu-ray and DVD cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links. As Internet advertising has declined, your support of The Bits by shopping through our Amazon links really makes a huge difference in allowing us to keep doing what we do here. So please do, as much as you can, and we thank you sincerely for it!

So did any of you guys head out to the theater last night to see The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies – Extended Edition? Several fans (who are also Bits reader) attended and most of them were pleased. A few who actually really didn’t like the theatrical cut of Battle of the Five Armies were very happy with the longer version. Apparently, the added material is mixed nicely throughout the film, giving each of the dwarves a hero moment, Bilbo has a few nice scenes, as does the character of Dain (played by Billy Connolly). Galadriel gets to mix it up at Dol Guldur, we see Radagast give Gandalf his staff – and much more. It IS apparently notably more violent, given the R rating. But the fans who’ve spoken to us were very happy. The film streets on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD on 11/17. (Thanks to Bits reader Michael B. and others for the info.)
