All right, folks. This will be our last post until Wednesday next week, as it’s not only the long Labor Day weekend here in the States but by wife and I are also celebrating our thirty-second wedding anniversary. So we’re going to take a little time to relax here in sweltering-in-a-heatwave Southern California.

But, we’ve got a TON of release news to talk about, as well as a pair of new disc reviews to start things off today...

Stephen has turned in his thoughts on Gaspar Noe’s intriguing and doubly-experimental Lux Aeterna (2019) on Blu-ray from Yellow Veil Pictures via Vinegar Syndrome.

And Tim has posted his thoughts on Jeffrey Obrow and Stephen Carpenter’s The Kindred (1987), now available in a new Special Edition Blu-ray release from Synapse Films.

And we’ve got lots more disc reviews coming over the weekend and early next week, so be sure to check back for them.

Meanwhile, our friends at Via Vision Entertainment down under are releasing a Saw: The Ultimate Collection 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray set on 11/9 that’s not only comes in an exclusive “reverse bear trap” replica, but is limited to just 1500 copies. The 13-disc set includes Saw, Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV, Saw V, Saw VI, Saw 3D: The Final Chapter, Jigsaw, Spiral: From the Book of Saw, plus a Bonus Disc packed with extras. You can see the packaging at left. Be sure to visit their website here for all the details and to pre-order. [Read on here...]

Sticking with the 4K Ultra HD format for a little while longer, we’ve learned from retail sources that Paramount is going to be releasing the 1961 Elvis classic Blue Hawaii on the format on 11/15.

It appears that Jordan Peele’s sci-fi horror gem Nope (2022) is coming to 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray on 11/15, and you can see the cover artwork below.

Titans of Cult is releasing a new 4K Steelbook edition of John Carpenter’s The Thing in the UK on 10/3. You can see that below as well.

ClassicFlix is releasing a 4K Ultra HD Special Limited Edition of Harry Essex’s film noir crime drama I, The Jury (1953) on 11/8. The package will include 4K, Blu-ray, and Blu-ray 3D versions of the film, all restored by the UCLA Film and Television Archive in collaboration with PKL Pictures and Romulus Films. You can see the cover art below.

We’ve got a look at the cover art for ClassicFlix’s The Little Rascals: The Complete Collection Centennial Edition (which we mentioned here at The Bits yesterday) below as well.

And we have the cover artwork for all four of Warner’s new Christmas 4K titles—National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Elf, A Christmas Story, and The Polar Express—below as well. Street date for each is 11/1.

One final 4K note: StudioCanal’s 4K Ultra HD Limited Edition release of Russell Mulcahy’s Highlander (1986)—coming to the UK and International markets on 10/31—will include a 64-page booklet, a prequel comic, a set of badges, art cards, and a poster. The disc-based special features will include the legacy audio commentaries with Mulcahy, William Panzer, and Bill Davis, as well as a new commentary with Jon Melville, and 4 new featurettes (The Immortal Attraction of Highlander, A Kind of Magic: Music of the Immortals, Capturing Immortality, and There Can Only Be One Kurgan). There’s no word yet on a US release, but it’s possible that it may be coming eventually from Lionsgate. Meanwhile, you can see the UK packaging here (click on the image to pre-order the title from Amazon.co.uk)...

Now let’s shift to regular Blu-ray news...

Paramount has just set Star Trek: Discovery – Season Four for Blu-ray and Blu-ray Steelbook release on 12/6. They also have Star Trek: Prodigy – Season One coming on Blu-ray on 11/8.

The Warner Archive Collection has set Tod Browning’s Mark of the Vampire (1935) for Blu-ray release on 10/11, followed by Rouben Mamoulian’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931) on Blu-ray on 10/25.

MVD Entertainment has a trio of new MVD Rewind Collection Blu-ray titles coming on October and November, including Jack Frost 2: The Revenge of the Mutant Killer Snowman (2000) on 10/11, At Close Range (1986) on 10/25, and Ski Patrol (1990) on 11/22.

And Universal has set Mr. Mayor: The Complete Series for Blu-ray and DVD release on 10/4.

We’ve got a trio of DVD only releases to report today as well... Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. will release Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends: The Complete Series and Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Complete Series on DVD only on 10/18.

And Sony has set Cobra Kai: Season Four for DVD only release on 9/13. The HD and 4K presentations are currently streaming exclusives on Netflix.

Speaking of which, a number of Bits readers have asked us whatever happened to the Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD releases of Stranger Things: Season Three, and the answer is we have no idea. Obviously, they haven’t materialized. The show has just aired its fourth season and has been renewed for a fifth and final season on Netflix. It’s possible that a Complete Series set is planned Blu-ray and 4K UHD after that airs in 2024, but we’ll have to wait and see.

All right, we’ll leave you today with a look at the cover artwork for a whole bunch of the titles we’ve mentioned above and more, with Amazon pre-order links if available (those that aren’t available will be added as they go live)...

Nope (4K Ultra HD) The Thing: Titans of Cult (UK Import 4K Ultra HD) A Christmas Story (4K Ultra HD)
