Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has just officially announced Smallville: The Complete Series 20th Anniversary Edition for release on Blu-ray Disc on 10/19!
All 218 episodes of the beloved superhero TV series (which ran from 2001 to 2011, first on The WB network and later on The CW) will be included in the set, remastered in 1080p HD. We don’t have specific details on the remastering yet, but it’s likely that Seasons 1-4 have been upsampled from SD (though live action footage not including VFX may have been scanned from original camera negative). Seasons 5 and 6 have been released previously on the short-lived HD-DVD format (back in 2006 and 2007), as have Seasons 6-10 on Blu-ray. Warner’s new Blu-ray set will include 40 BD-50 discs, plus 2 DVD-9s that will collect the bonus content released previously on DVD. Among the video-based features that will be included are the original 1961 pilot for The Adventures of Superboy, 5 longer featurettes (A Retrospective Look at the Series’ 10-Year Journey, A Decade of Comic-Con, Paley Festival, Smallville’s 100th Episode: Making of a Milestone, and Secret Origin: The American Story of DC Comics), plus many additional behind-the-scenes featurettes, gag reels, and deleted and extended scenes. The Blu-rays will also include numerous audio commentaries with the cast and crew. The total bonus features content amounts to over 28 hours of material in all. What’s more, the package will include a Digital copy code for the entire series.
SRP for the set is $179.99. You can see the cover artwork here below (we’ll add the Amazon pre-order link as soon as it goes live)...
That’s all for now. Stay tuned...!
