All right, looks like it’s going to take us a few days to completely catch up on news from and post Con, because the announcements keep coming in…

First up though, our very own Dr. Adam Jahnke has turned in the latest edition of his excellent Burnt Offerings MOD DVD column, featuring an update on Warner Archive releases for this week (including the classic Captain Caveman animated series) and upcoming MOD/DVD-R releases too!  He’s also reviewed Warner Archive’s The White Dawn on MOD DVD-R.  Don’t miss it!

Also here at The Bits today, Russell Hammond has once again posted the weekly Release Dates & Artwork update with all the latest Blu-ray, DVD and Video Game cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links.  As always, a portion of anything your order from Amazon after clicking through to them from our links goes to help support our work here at The Bits and we greatly appreciate it!

Now then… let’s get to some announcements news…

First up today, Amazon.com is now taking pre-orders for Guillermo del Toro’s terrific Pacific Rim on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD, all from Warner Home Video (SRP $44.95, $35.99 and $28.98).  There’s no street date yet listed.  I know the film hasn’t been the hit in theatres that some expected, but I’ll tell you… there’s no movie I’ve had more fun with this summer and it’s actually fantastic in 3D too.  If you get the chance to see it digitally in IMAX 3D, don’t miss it.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just set director Fred Zinnemann’s  From Here to Eternity for release on Blu-ray on 10/1 as a 60th Anniversary Edition (SRP $19.98).  Extras will include new audio commentary with Tim Zinnemann (the director’s son) and actor Alavin Sargent, a pair of vintage featurettes (The Making of From Here to Eternity and Fred Zinnemann: As I See It) and an all-new ‘graphics in picture’ track called Eternal History filled with new interviews, exclusive photos and other rare material.  See the cover art below.

Criterion has announced their October Blu-ray and DVD release slate, set to include René Clair’s I Married a Witch (Cat #676 – BD & DVD – 10/8), Georges Franju’s Eyes Without a Face (Cat #260 – BD – 10/15), John Cassavetes: Five Films (Cat #250+ – BD – includes Shadows, Faces, A Woman Under the Influence, The Killing of a Chinese Bookie and Opening Night – 10/22), Lewis Allen’s The Uninvited (Cat #677 – BD & DVD – 10/22) and Michelangelo Antonioni’s La notte (Cat #678 – BD & DVD – 10/29).

Anchor Bay Entertainment has just set John Carpenter’s Halloween: 35th Anniversary Edition for Blu-ray release on 9/24 (SRP $34.99).  It’ll come in Blu-ray Book packaging with the film in an all-new HD transfer supervised by cinematographer Dean Cundey and a new Dolby TrueHD 7.1 audio mix (as well as the original mono).  Extras will include a brand-new feature length audio commentary by writer/director John Carpenter and star Jamie Lee Curtis, the new The Night She Came Home HD featurette with Curtis, a vintage On Location featurette, trailers, TV and radio spots and additional scenes from the TV version of the film.  You’ll find cover artwork below.

Disney has officially confirmed that The Muppet Movie: The Original Classic – Nearly 35th Anniversary Edition is coming to Blu-ray on 8/13.  Extras will include Jim Frawley’s Extended Camera Test with never-before-seen footage, Doc Hopper’s commercial, original trailers, an interactive Disney Intermission, an interactive Frog-E-Oke Sing-Along, the Pepe Profiles Present Kermit: A Frog’s Life featurette and a Digital Copy.

Universal will release Syfy’s Defiance: Season One on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/15.  Extras will include deleted scenes, a gag reel and 3 featurettes (Defiance: A Transmedia Revolution, Making Defiance and Behind the Scenes with Jesse Rath).

Lionsgate has set Emperor for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 8/13, featuring actor Tommy Lee Jones as General Douglas MacArthur.

Lionsgate has also set Hannibal: Season One for Blu-ray and DVD release on 9/24 (SRP $39.97 and $39.98).  Extras will include 4 featurettes (Hannibal Reborn, A Taste for Killing, The FX of Murder and A Symphony for the Slaughter), a gag reel, deleted scenes, Pilot episode storyboards and audio commentaries on select episodes with Bryan Fuller, David Slade, Hugh Dancy and more.

Here’s a look at the cover artwork for Sony’s From Here to Eternity, Liongate’s Emperor and Hannibal: Season One, Disney’s The Muppet Movie and Criterion’s La notte and Anchor Bay’s Halloween: 35th Anniversary Edition.  All are available for pre-order now on Amazon.com by clicking on the cover art...
