While we’re talking Indicator, we should also note that they’re also releasing the Universal Noir #2 Blu-ray box set on 9/18 in the UK, which will include Charles David’s Lady on a Train (1945), Robert Sidomak’s Time Out of Mind (1947), John Brahm’s Singapore (1947), Zoltán Korda’s A Woman’s Vengeance (1948), and Michael Gordon’s An Act of Murder (1948) and The Lady Gambles (1949).
Here’s a look at their two 4K UHD titles (and we’ve included the aforementioned cover artwork for Warner’s Babylon 5: The Complete Series Blu-ray as well)...
Meanwhile, Imprint Films hasn’t announced them quite yet (we expect them to soon), but we’ve learned that their October Blu-ray slate will include Sidney Hayers’ Night of the Eagle (1962), Bernard Girard’s The Mad Room (1969), Iain Softley’s The Skeleton Key (2005), William Friedkin’s Bug (2006), Gregory Jacobs’s Wind Chill (2007), and J.A. Bayona’s The Orphanage (2007). Thanks to our own Russell Hammond for the heads-up on that. Here’s a look at the covers...
Also today, Toho Studios will be releasing their first batch of classic Godzilla films in 4K Ultra HD in Japan in the 4th quarter of this year, starting with Godzilla (1954) and Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964) on 10/25, Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster (1964), Invasion of Astro-Monster (1965), and Destroy All Monsters (1968) on 11/22, and finally Godzilla vs. Hedorah (1971) and Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989) on 12/20. Like Toho’s recent Akira Kurosawa 4Ks, none of these will have English subtitles. Nevertheless, these releases would seem to make it more likely that US and European distributors will take up the challenge and release their own 4K versions in the not-too-distant future. Here’s a peek at the first two titles (with Amazon.co.jp pre-order links)...
Finally today, all of Criterion’s recently-announced October Blu-ray and 4K titles are now available for pre-order on Amazon. So, in addition to Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, here they all are with the relevant pre-order page links (remember, anytime you pre-order literally anything from Amazon after clicking to them through one of our links, you’re helping to support our work here at The Bits and we appreciate it)...
Stay tuned!
