We have three new disc reviews and a nice batch of Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD title announcements to start the week off for you today...

First, Dennis has reviewed Dave Thomas’ The Experts (1989) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

Dennis and Tim have jointly reviewed Jan de Bont’s The Haunting (1999) in 4K Ultra HD from Scream Factory.

And Tim has reviewed another Shaw Brothers title on disc, in this case Chang Cheh’s Chinatown Kid (1977) from Arrow Video’s fantastic Shawscope: Volume One Blu-ray box set.

In announcement news this morning, Paramount has just made Steven Caple Jr.’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023) official for release on Blu-ray, DVD, 4K Ultra HD, and 4K Steelbook on 10/10, with the Digital release set to drop tomorrow (7/11). Extras will apparently include extended and deleted scenes (including an alternate opening and ending) and 9 behind-the-scenes featurettes (Human Affairs, Life in the 90s, Heroes, Villains, The Chase, The Battle of Ellis Island, Into the Jungle, The Switchback Attack, and The Final Conflict). Unfortunately, we don’t have any disc specs. But you can see what we believe is the near-final cover artwork at left and also below the break. [Read on here...]

Also today, our friends at the Warner Archive Collection have just unveiled their August Blu-ray slate, which will officially include George Cukor’s Little Women (1933), William Dieterle’s The Life of Emile Zola (1937), Vincente Minnelli’s Father’s Little Dividend (1951), Jacques Tourneur’s Wyatt Earp western Wichita (1955), Abe Levitow’s animated musical Gay Purr-ee (1962)—which features the voice talents of Judy Garland and Robert Goulet, with a script by Chuck Jones—and Norman Taurog’s Elvis Presley musical comedy Spinout (1966). You’ll find the cover art for those below as well.

Meanwhile, Paramount has just set Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Season Three for Blu-ray and DVD release on 9/26, though there’s no sign of a 4K SKU yet.

The studio has also set Fire Country: Season One for DVD only release on 9/19.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics has revealed that Michael Ritchie’s Prime Cut (1972) and James L. Conway’s The Boogens (1981) are both coming soon to 4K Ultra HD. And they’ve officially set Roger Spottiswoode’s The Best of Times (1986) and Dennis Dugan’s Brain Donors (1992) for Blu-ray release on 9/19.

Discotek Media is releasing Pascal Morelli’s 13-episode French animated series The Legend of Calamity Jane (1997-98) for release on Blu-ray on 9/26.

Lionsgate will release Tim Story’s The Blackening (2022) on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 8/22, and all three are now available for pre-order on Amazon.com (click here to see those).
