Criterion’s September slate includes 4Ks of Repo Man, The Long Good Friday, Araki’s Teen Apocalypse Trilogy & more, plus Paramount’s IF is official & Lionsgate picks up Megalopolis

We’ve got some good announcement news here at the site today, starting with word that The Criterion Collection has just officially unveiled their September release slate, which will include a 4K upgrade of Alex Cox’s Repo Man (1984) (Spine #654 – 4K UHD + Blu-ray) on 9/3, Andrew Haigh’s All of Us Strangers (2023) (Spine #1234 – 4K UHD + Blu-ray and Blu-ray) on 9/10, a 4K upgrade of John Mackenzie’s The Long Good Friday (1980) (Spine #26 – 4K UHD + Blu-ray and Blu-ray) on 9/17, and Gregg Araki’s Teen Apocalypse Trilogy—including Totally F***ed Up (1993), The Doom Generation (1995), and Nowhere (1997)—(Spine #1233 – 4K UHD + Blu-ray and Blu-ray) and Todd Solondz’s Happiness (1998) (Spine #1235 – 4K UHD + Blu-ray and Blu-ray) on 9/24. The Repo Man restoration was approved by Cox, and will include Dolby Vision HDR and uncompressed mono audio. All of Us Strangers will include Dolby Vision HDR, 5.1 DTS-HD MA, and uncompressed stereo. The Long Good Friday restoration was approved by director of photography Phil Méheux and will include Dolby Vision HDR and uncompressed monaural audio. The Teen Apocalypse Trilogy will include Totally F***ed Up newly-restored in 2K and The Doom Generation and Nowhere in 4K Ultra HD. The Happiness restoration was supervised by director of photography Maryse Alberti, and will include Dolby Vision HDR and 2.0 surround in DTS-HD MA. Also today, Paramount has just set John Krasinski’s IF (2024) for release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on 8/13, with the Digital release expected on 6/18. Extras will include 7 featurettes (The Imagination Behind IF, Imagining Imaginary Friends, Giving IFs a Voice, Blending the Real and the Imaginary, Tina Turner Forever!, The Imaginative World of IF, and Learn to Draw Blue from IF), plus a gag reel.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics has revealed that Otto Preminger’s The Court-Martial of Billy Mitchell (1955) and George Seaton’s Teacher’s Pet (1958) are coming soon to Blu-ray, mastered from new 4K and 6K scans respectively. The company has also set John “Bud” Cardos’ Kingdom of the Spiders (1977) for Blu-ray release on 8/20, as part of their Kino Cult line.

And finally today, it’s been revealed that Lionsgate has picked up the North American distribution rights to director Francis Ford Coppola’s passion project, Megalopolis. It will arrive in theaters in September and presumably be released in Digital and on physical media (Blu-ray, DVD, 4K Ultra HD) sometime after that.
