Universal makes Downton Abbey: A New Era official for release on BD, DVD & 4K on 7/5, plus Doctor Strange, Real Genius & Maverick pre-orders

We’ve got two more new disc reviews for you to enjoy this afternoon...

Tim has turned in his thoughts on Norman Jewison’s In the Heat of the Night (1967) in 4K Ultra HD from our friends at Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

Tim has also taken a look at Robert Fuest’s The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971) and Dr. Phibes Rises Again (1972), which are available in a new Blu-ray double feature also from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

In announcement news today, Universal has officially set Downton Abbey: A New Era for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 7/5. The 4K will include Dolby Atmos audio and Dolby Vision HDR. Extras will include audio commentary with director Simon Curtis, plus 6 featurettes (Good to Be Back, Return to Downton Abbey: The Making of a New Era, A Legendary Character, Creating the Film Within the Film, Spill the Tea (Time), and Her Majesty’s Yacht Britannia). Universal is also working on a 4K Ultra HD release of Andrzej Bartkowiak’s Doom (2005) for release on 8/9.

Paramount has set Good Burger for Blu-ray Steelbook release on 7/19 in honor of the film’s 25th anniversary.

Cult Epics has announced a new distribution deal with MVD Entertainment Group, which went into effect on 6/1. Among the upcoming Blu-ray titles they’re working on are Naked Over the Fence (1973) on 8/23 (the first 1K copies will include a bonus soundtrack CD) and The Last Romantic Lover (1978) on 10/25. They’re also going to be releasing the soundtrack to Madame Claude (1977) by Serge Gainsbourg on CD on 11/22 and will re-issue the film on Blu-ray that same day (again, the first 1K copies will include the CD).

Kino Lorber Studio Classics has now unveiled its entire July slate of titles, including Tarantulas: The Deadly Cargo (BD), Terror Out of the Sky (BD), and Ants! (BD) on 7/5, Steel Justice (BD) and Terror Circus (BD – for Code Red) on 7/12, Film Noir: The Dark Side of Cinema VIII (BD – includes Street of Chance, Enter Arsene Lupin, and Temptation), Salt and Pepper/One More Time (BD), They Call Me Mister Tibbs!/The Organization (BD), the Maria Montez & Jon Hall Collection (BD – includes White Savage, Gypsy Wildcat, and Sudan), Marty (BD), and Where the Lilies Bloom (BD) on 7/19, and Night Gallery: Season Two (BD), I’m Dangerous Tonight (BD), The Killing (4K UHD), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (4K UHD and BD), Time Out of Mind (BD) and Planet of the Vampires (BD) on 7/26.

Sony Picture Home Entertainment has set Roger Michell’s The Duke for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on 7/26. The film stars Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren.

RLJE Films has set Offseason for Blu-ray and DVD release on 6/14 (today).

RLJE Films and AMC+ will also release the western series That Dirty Black Bag: Season One on Blu-ray and DVD on 7/26.

Second Sight Films has revised their street date for Robert Eggers’ The Witch on 4K Ultra HD to 7/25 (delayed from 6/20). Adjust your plans accordingly.

Icarus Films has set the documentary double feature Summers with Picasso for DVD and Digital release on 7/12. The release will include the both François Lévy-Kuentz’s On the French Riviera with Man Ray and Picasso and Christian Tran’s Picasso and Sima, Antibes 1946.

The Cinema Guild has set Rodrigo Reyes’ 499 for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 8/2.
