And in a bit of announcement news today, you might recall that a while back 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment held an online vote for Blu-ray fans to pick from among a list of great classic catalog titles that they’d like to see released on BD. Here are the titles that won, and also the runners up for each decade (winner listed first), plus a write-in winner. Fox is releasing them all on Blu-ray on 12/3:
1930s – Jessie James (1939) and Call of the Wild (1935)
1940s – The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947) and Black Swan (1942)
1950s – Carmen Jones (1954) and Desk Set (1957)
1960s – North to Alaska (1960 and Undefeated (1969)
And a write-in winner: Cavalcade (1933)
Finally, in a bit of unrelated news, for those of you who live in the Chicago area and have young kids (grades 2-6) that are looking for something fun and genre-related to do in July, my brother Jason Smith and his company Three Cat Education are hosting a series of science fiction-themed theater summer camps. The first is Acting Out – Comic Capers (7/15-19), followed by Acting Out – Space Aliens, Monsters and Villains (7/22-26) and finally Puppet Masters and Storytelling (7/29-8/2). They’re a chance for your kids to have fun and get creative too. You can find all the details here.
That’s all for now. Stay tuned!
