Extras on the 4K and Blu-ray SKUs will include audio commentary with the director, 6 featurettes (Return to the Firehouse: Making Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Busted: Capturing the Ghosts of Frozen Empire, Manifesting Garraka, New York, New Gear, Welcome to the Paranormal Discovery Center, and Knowing the Score), as well as Easter Eggs Unleashed, and deleted and extended scenes. Look for Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos on the 4K, with DTS-HD Master Audio on the Blu-ray.
Sony has also set Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont’s Can’t Hardly Wait (1998) for 4K Ultra HD release on 8/20. Look for the disc to include Dolby Vision HDR, Dolby Atmos audio, 11 newly-uncovered deleted scenes, and all of the previous legacy special features.
Paramount has set Star Trek: Discovery – The Final Season for Blu-ray, DVD, and Blu-ray Steelbook release on 8/27. All 10 episodes will be included along with nearly 2 hours of special features, including an audio commentary, a deleted scene, 5 featurettes (Being Michael Burnham, Character Development, A Team Effort, Discovery’s Creative Force, and Star Trek: Discovery – The Voyage of Season 5), plus a gag reel. That same day, you’ll also get Star Trek: Discovery – The Complete Series on Blu-ray and DVD, featuring all 65 episodes, over 15 hours’ worth of extras, and a new bonus disc “that takes you on a never-before-seen journey through all five seasons with the cast and crew.” You can see the cover artwork below.
Paramount has also set Wes Craven’s Red Eye (2005) for 4K Ultra HD release on 8/20, featuring Dolby Vision HDR and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. What’s more, Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) will follow on 4K UHD on 9/3, again featuring Dolby Vision HDR but this time with 5.1 Dolby TrueHD. Sweeny Todd has previously only been available on 4K disc in the Paramount Scares: Volume 1 box set. Red Eye was released in 4K UHD in 2023 as a Paramount Presents title, but this is its return to print in regular Amaray packaging.
Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has announced a few bare-bones 4K SKUs (they offer no Blu-ray or Digital code—just the 4K disc), including Destin Daniel Cretton’s Just Mercy (2019) and John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein’s Game Night (2018) on 7/6, followed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa’s Focus (2015) and Scott Cooper’s Black Mass (2015) on 7/30. Look for them to feature HDR10 only.
Icarus Films will release Claude Chabrol, Jean Douchet, Jean-Luc Godard, Jean-Daniel Pollet, Éric Rohmer, and Jean Rouch’s Six in Paris (1965) on Blu-ray for the first time on 7/30.
Kino Lorber Studio Classics will release Godard’s Alphaville (1965) on 4K Ultra HD on 8/13. The company has also set Bert I. Gordon’s The Food of the Gods (1976) and Empire of the Ants (1977) for Blu-ray release on 8/20 as their next two Kino Cult titles (#10 and 11, respectively).
Here’s something very exciting for animation fans: GKids has revealed that they’ve licensed the US physical media rights for the Riot Games and Fortiche Productions Netflix animaed original series Arcane: League of Legends – Season One! Look for them to release it on Blu-ray and, yes, 4K Ultra HD later this year, probably timed to coincide for the debut of Season Two on Netflix. This series is a pretty stunning piece of work, that combines the style of Japanese anime with the graphic look of a French bande dessinée. The series also features the best song that ex-Police front man Sting has recorded in many years. It’s well worth your time.
Meanwhile, Eureka Entertainment in the UK has set Laurel & Hardy: The Silent Years for release on Blu-ray on August 19th as part of their Masters of Cinema Series. It features 15 silent shorts from 1927, including Lucky Dog, 45 Minutes from Hollywood, Duck Soup, Slipping Wives, Love ‘em and Weep, Why Girls Love Sailors, With Love and Hisses, Sailors, Beware!, Do Detectives Think?, Flying Elephants, Sugar Daddies, The Second 100 Years, Call of the Cuckoo, Putting Pants on Philip, and The Battle of the Century.
Also in the UK only, StudioCanal will be releasing a new 4K restoration of the Ealing Studios classic The Bells Go Down (1943) on Blu-ray and DVD on June 24th.
And Radiance Films has revealed their September Blu-ray slate, which will include Seijun Suzuki’s Tattooed Life (1965), Damiano Damiani’s A Man on His Knees (1980), and Elio Petri’s We Still Kill the Old Way (1967) and A Quiet Place in the Country (1968) all on September 23rd.
