All right, let me just quickly knock out some release news so I can get to work on these reviews...
First up today, Lionsgate has set A Hologram for the King, starring Tom Hanks, for Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD release on 8/9. Extras will include 3 featurettes (The Making of A Hologram for the King, From Novel to Screen: The Adaptation of A Hologram for the King, and Perfecting the Culture).
Lionsgate has also set Urge, staring Pierce Brosnan, for Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD release on 9/6.
On the TV front, Warner Bros Home Entertainment has set The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Ninth Season for Blu-ray and DVD release on 9/13 (SRP $49.99 and $44.98). Extras will include 5 featurettes, video of the 2015 Comic-Con panel, and a gag reel.
The big news today is that Shout Factory has announced that they’ve extended their deal with Hasbro and are going to be releasing Transformers: The Movie on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/13 (SRP $24.93 – both with Digital Copy) in celebration of the film’s 30th anniversary. Details on the extras will be revealed at a later date, but for now you can see the cover artwork above left there.
Meanwhile, their Scream Factory label has set Bad Moon for Blu-ray release on 7/19, including both the theatrical cut and the director’s cut, new audio commentary with writer/director Eric Red on the director’s cut, another audio commentary with Red and actor Michael Pare on the theatrical cut, the new Nature of the Beast: Making Bad Moon featurette, the unrated opening scene from the director’s first cut (sourced from VHS), 3 storyboard sequences, and the theatrical trailer.
Also today, Kino Lorber has set their September Blu-ray slate to include Daddy Long Legs (1955), My Bodyguard (1980) and Grandview, U.S.A. (1984) on 9/6, Road House (1948) and Cry of the City (1948) on 9/13, The Enemy Below (1957), Fixed Bayonets! (1951), Beware! The Blob (1972 – aka Son of Blob), and Table for Five (1983) on 9/20, and Haunted Honeymoon (1986), The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes’ Smarter Brother (1975), and Cabo Blanco (1980) on 9/27. Also newly announced as coming soon by the company (street date TBA) are Moving Violations (1985), The House on 92nd Street (1945), Boomerang! (1947), and Daisy Kenyon (1947).
Synapse Films has set Basket Case 2 and Basket Case 3 for Blu-ray review on 8/9 (SRP $19.95 each). Basket Case 2 will include 2 featurettes (The Man in the Moon Mask and Beyond the Wicker), while Basket Case 3 will include the theatrical trailer.
Finally, we have word today that the Criterion Collection has restored John Waters’ Multiple Maniacs (1970) for a future Blu-ray and DVD release. Read more here and thanks to Bits reader Roberto-Juan G. for the heads-up!
