Meanwhile, HBO has set The Leftovers: The Complete First Season for Blu-ray release on 10/6 (SRP $59.98).
Universal will release Unfriended on Blu-ray on 8/11.
Entertainment One will release AMC’s Hell on Wheels: Season 4 on Blu-ray and DVD on 8/11 (SRP $49.98 and $39.98). Entertainment One will also release Lila & Eve on Blu-ray and DVD on 8/25 (SRP $29.98 each).
CBS (via Paramount) will release NCIS: New Orleans – The Complete First Season, NCIS: The Complete Twelfth Season, and NCIS: Los Angeles – The Complete Sixth Season on DVD only on 9/18. They also have Elementary: The Complete Third Season, Criminal Minds: The Complete Tenth Season, and The Good Wife: The Complete Sixth Season all on DVD only on 8/25.
And here’s a nice update: It appears that Paramount is now releasing What We Do in the Shadows on Blu-ray and DVD on 7/21. The title was originally going to be distributed by the film’s producers (under the label The Orchard) on 5/19, but that date came and went. It appears that the studio sought, and has gotten, major label backing, which is great news. The Blu-ray will include audio commentary by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, the Behind the Shadows featurette, deleted scenes, additional video extras, interviews and promo videos, and a poster gallery. You can see the official cover artwork below.
Finally, here’s a more troubling development: Dark Horizons is reporting that 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has decided to pull all older film versions of Fantastic Four from digital platforms so that they don’t compete with the studio’s new feature film version, which arrives in theaters on 8/7. (Note: They’re still available for viewing by those who have already purchased them, but they’re not available for new purchase at the moment.) This is exactly the kind of thing we’ve been warning for years could and would happen in the all-digital era here at The Bits – content could simply disappear, and thus be unavailable for viewing by consumers, at the whim of a studio or content creator. That can’t happen with physical media, of course. Disc-based content can go out of print, sure, but the existing discs are still out there. But if we move to an all-digital ecosystem for digital entertainment, someone else gets to choose what content you have access to and when you have access to it. And we have a serious problem with that.
One last note today: We’ve updated the Release Dates & Artwork section here at The Bits today with all the latest Blu-ray and DVD cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, a portion of anything you order through our links goes to help support our work here at the site and we really do appreciate it. It makes a big difference.
We’ll leave you with a look at a few new pieces of Blu-ray cover art (with Amazon links if available), including What We Do in the Shadows...
Stay tuned...
