Okay, folks… we’re closing out the week with just a little bit of release news and some new cover artwork too.

But first, I know many of you Trek fans out there have been waiting for the official word on Paramount’s new Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - Director’s Cut Blu-ray, and I’m here to give it to you. The new BD, which streets next week (on 6/7), includes both the original theatrical cut and the long-awaited Director’s Cut in full HD, both remastered from a new 4K scan of the original film elements. And it looks fan-freaking-tastic. In fact, it’s more than fair to say that The Wrath of Khan has simply never looked better. The disc also includes all of the extras from the previous Blu-ray and DVD editions and adds a new 28-minute featurette too. RUN, don’t walk, to read my in-depth review here… and then to buy it on Amazon (for just $23) here!  [Read on here…]

Also today here at The Bits, our own Tim Salmons has closed out his Pick-Ups review column for this week with a look at Robert Eggers’s new horror classic The Witch, as recently released on Blu-ray by Lionsgate. Don’t miss it!

And in other news this afternoon, the folks at Network Distributing have released a new video teaser for their forthcoming UFO: The Complete Series Blu-ray set. All 26 episodes are being remastered from the existing 1.33:1 high-definition transfers, with extensive digital clean up and re-grading. New special features are also being created. Look for it to be released on Blu-ray Disc in the UK (and hopefully here in the States too) later this year. Here’s the teaser…

Finally today, we have a look for you at the official final cover artwork for Warner Bros Home Entertainment’s regular 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo, Blu-ray 3D Combo, and standard Blu-ray Combo editions of the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - Ultimate Edition, which are due on 7/19. A number of you guys have asked us today if these versions will be variable aspect ratio (shifting from 2.39:1 to 1.78:1 for the IMAX-filmed scenes). We don’t know yet, but we’ve put the question to our studio sources and we’ll let you know as soon as we hear back. In the meantime, click on the covers below to pre-order the discs on Amazon.com (and remember that doing so helps to support our work here at The Bits, which we greatly appreciate)…

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - Ultimate Edition (4K Ultra HD Blu-ray)    Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - Ultimate Edition (Blu-ray 3D)    Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - Ultimate Edition (Blu-ray Disc)

X-Men: Apocalypse (Blu-ray Disc)    The Witch (Blu-ray Disc)    Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - Director's Cut (Blu-ray Disc)

That’s all for this week. Enjoy the Wrath of Khan BD review and we’ll see you back here on Monday. Peace out!
