All right, I’ve had family here over the long Memorial Day weekend which is why I missed yesterday’s update.  But we’ll get you caught up today, no problem…

First, for those who may have missed it on Saturday, be sure to check out Michael Coate’s new column here at The Bits called History, Legacy & Showmanship.  His first installment is a look back at Return of the Jedi on the 30th anniversary of the film’s release.

Also, Russell Hammond posted our weekly update of the Release Dates & Artwork section yesterday with all the latest Blu-ray, DVD and Video Game cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links.  As always, a portion of anything you order from Amazon (in the same browsing session) after clicking to them through our links goes to help support our work at The Bits and we really appreciate it.

Speaking of which… Amazon.com is now taking pre-orders for Universal’s Fast & Furious 6 on Blu-ray/DVD Combo.  There’s no street date yet obviously, but SRP is $34.98 with an Amazon price of just $20.99.  Don’t forget, Amazon is also now taking pre-orders on Star Trek Into Darkness on Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray Combo, Iron Man 3 on Blu-ray Combo and Oblivion on Blu-ray Combo, among others.

Now then… the big news today is that Sony has set Fede Alvarez’s remake The Evil Dead (2013) for Blu-ray Combo and DVD release on 7/26 (SRP $35.99 and $30.99).  Extras will include audio commentary with the director and cast and 5 featurettes (Directing the Dead, Evil Dead: The Reboot, Making Life Difficult, Unleashing the Evil Force and Being Mia).  You can see the cover artwork below.

Sony has also set the CG-animated Adventures in Zambezia for Blu-ray Combo and DVD release on 8/6.

And Sony has announced another slate of MOD DVD-R titles for release on 7/2, including Miss Sadie Thompson, Salome (1953), More Than a Secretary, Teenage Crime Wave, Deceit (2004), Uranium Boom, Ladies of Leisure (1930), Party of Five: Season Five and Chosen: Season One.

Meanwhile, Anchor Bay and Starz have set Spartacus: War of the Damned – The Complete Third Season for Blu-ray and DVD release on 9/3 (SRP $59.99 and $49.98).  All 10 episodes are included (in extended versions with audio commentary on the Blu-ray version), along with 6 featurettes (Spartacus: The Legend Retold, The Price of Being a Gladiator, A Bloody Farewell, The Spoils of War Revealed: Visual Effects, Adorning the Damned and The Mind Behind Spartacus).

Warner Home Video has set Walter Hill’s Sylvester Stallone actioner Bullet to the Head for Blu-ray Combo release on 7/26 (SRP $35.99).

Universal has set The Office: Season Nine for Blu-ray and DVD release on 8/13.

Lionsgate has set the horror/thriller Black Rock for Blu-ray and DVD release on 7/20.

CBS and Paramount have announced the DVD only release of Elementary: The First Season on 8/27.

20th Century Fox has set Danny Boyle’s Trance for Blu-ray and DVD release on 7/23.  The Blu-ray will include deleted scenes, 7 featurettes (The Power of Suggestion: Making Trance, Kick Off, Danny’s Film Noir, Hypnotherapy, The Look, The Final Rewrite and Danny Boyle Retrospective), Spencer Susser’s short film Eugene, the film’s theatrical trailer and a Trance Unraveled Easter egg.  No cover artwork is available yet.

Fox has also set the Scott Free-produced/Bill O’Reilly book-based thriller Killing Lincoln for Blu-ray and DVD release on 6/11.

And Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment will release Blood Runs Cold on DVD on 7/2.

Also today, we’ve learned more about the extras you’ll find on CBS’ Star Trek: Enterprise – Season Two when it hits Blu-ray on 8/20.  Look for 8 episode audio commentaries (specific episodes TBA – with John Billingsley and Bonita Friedericy, Chris Black and Jeffrey Combs, Chris Black and Mike & Denise Okuda (x2), Michael Sussman and Phyllis Strong (x2), and Mike & Denise Okuda themselves), a text commentary by the Okudas, deleted scenes, a Season 2 promo, several Archival Mission Logs featurettes, a photo gallery, archival interviews for the episode Stigma and 2 all-new HD documentaries including Destination Unknown: Uncharted Territory and In Conversation: The First Crew (which features a reunion of the complete primary cast in discussion with producer Brannon Braga).

And finally, in other news from around the Net today, there are some great new sci-fi film trailers up at YouTube for cool upcoming films, including this one for Man of Steel

…this one for Europa Report

…and one for Gravity too.  All look like they might be pretty damn good, so do check them out.

We’ll leave you with a look at new Blu-ray cover artwork for Sony’s The Evil Dead and Starz’ Spartacus: War of the Damned – The Complete Third Season and DVD art for CBS’ Elementary: The First Season

The Evil Dead (2013 - Blu-ray Disc)    Spartacus: War of the Damned - Season Three (Blu-ray Disc)    Elementary: Season One (DVD)

Back with more tomorrow.  Have a great afternoon!
