The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is official for disc, plus Criterion’s August slate includes The Last Emperor & Albert Brooks films in 4K

Just another quick update today, but new disc reviews here at The Bits this afternoon include...

Stuart’s take on Kōhei Oguri’s The Sting of Death (1990) (aka Shi no toge) on Blu-ray from Shochiku via Radiance Films.

Tim’s look at Tinto Brass’ All Ladies Do It (1992) in 4K Ultra HD from Cult Epics.

And Dennis’ thoughts on Anthony Mann’s Devil’s Doorway (1950) on Blu-ray from the Warner Archive Collection.

In announcement news today, Lionsgate has officially set Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024) for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 6/25, with the Digital release expected on 6/18.

The film, which stars Henry Cavill, Eiza González, and Alan Ritchson, is based on a true story and has been well reviewed, with many critics calling it Ritchie’s best work in years. [Read on here...]

Expect Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio on the 4K SKUs. Extras on the Blu-ray versions will include The Ministry of Filmmaking featurette and the film’s theatrical trailer. There will also be an Amazon-exclusive 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray Steelbook on 6/25 featuring custom artwork. SRP is $42.99 for the 4K, $39.99 for the Blu-ray, and $29.86 for the DVD. Also today, Criterion has announced their August slate of titles, which will include Brief Encounters/The Long Farewell: Two Films by Kira Muratova (Spine #1129 – Blu-ray and DVD) and Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Last Emperor (Spine #422 – 4K Ultra HD) on 8/13, Martha Coolidge’s Not a Pretty Picture (Spine #1230 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 8/20, and Albert Brooks’ Real Life (Spine #1231 – 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray) and Mother (Spine #1232 – 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray) on 8/27.
