Today’s update is a quick one, but we’re starting with more new disc reviews...

Tim has posted his thoughts on Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak (2015) in 4K Ultra HD from Arrow Video, as well as Hanna-Barbera’s Top Cat and the Beverly Hills Cats (1988) on Blu-ray from the Warner Archive Collection.

And Dennis has reviewed Francis Ford Coppola’s The Rain People (1969) on Blu-ray, also from the Warner Archive Collection.

In announcement news today, Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has just made Albert Magnoli’s Purple Rain (1984) official for release in physical 4K Ultra HD and 4K Digital on 6/25 (SRP $33.99 for the disc). As expected, the disc will include audio commentary by Magnoli, Robert Cavallo, and Donald E. Thorin, 3 featurettes (First Avenue: The Road to Pop Royalty, Purple Rain Backstage Pass: Behind the Scenes, and Riffs, Ruffles and a Revolution: The Impact and Influence of Purple Rain), the MTV Premiere Party Original Broadcast, a gallery of Prince movie trailers, and 8 music videos for songs from the film. Note that Purple Rain has been digitally restored from a new 8K scan of the original camera negative, and “conformed to the original theatrical release aspect ratio of 1.85:1 to provide the most authentic theatrical presentation framing ever to be released to the home.” Look for HDR10 high dynamic range only. Sound has been restored “from the original Dolby Stereo (LCRS) archived 35mm magnetic film source elements containing the separate dialogue, music, and effects (DME) tracks. These restored elements along with the 20th anniversary’s 5.1 multi-channel print master were used to complete a newly remastered 5.1 presentation for the film.”

Speaking of Warner Bros, retail sources have confirmed that Jan de Bont’s Twister (1996) will arrive on 4K Ultra HD Steelbook—and now regular Amaray 4K UHD as well—on 7/9. Both will include HDR10 high dynamic range, Dolby Atmos audio, the new The Legacy of Twister: Taken by the Wind featurette, as well as legacy extras.

Also, Paramount will release Chris Nelson’s Reunion (2024) Digitally on 6/28.

20th Century Studios has also set Arkasha Stevenson’s The First Omen (2024) for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 7/30, with the Digital release due on 5/28. Extras will include 3 featurettes (The Mystery of Margaret, The Director’s Vision, and Signs of The First Omen).

Well Go USA will also release Kiah Roache-Turner’s Sting (2024) on Blu-ray and DVD on 7/30, with the Digital due 5/28. Extras will include a trio of featurettes (Creating the Monster, The Director, and The Cast).

Shout! Studios has announced that it’s acquired the AVOD and Digital distribution rights for Pee-Wee’s Playhouse. (The company already has the physical home entertainment rights.) What’s more, Shout! Studios has licensed the Digital rights to the original Speed Racer (1967) anime series (as well as the Japanese version, Mach GoGoGo), which will arrive on various digital platforms on 6/1.

And finally today, director Francis Ford Coppola has just unveiled the first full trailer for his forthcoming film Megalopolis. You can see it here…

Coppola is currently seeking a distribution partner for the film. We can’t wait to see it!
