In terms of new release news today, we’ve learned from industry sources that Walt Disney’s original animated Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) is coming to 4K Ultra HD later in the year! Like Cinderella, the title certainly makes sense as part of the studio’s 100th anniversary celebration. Rest assured, we’ll post more information on this as it comes in, particularly if any kind of official news breaks from the studio.
Our old friend George Feltenstein of the Warner Archive Collection has revealed on Tim Millard’s The Extras podcast that a new Looney Tunes Collector’s Choice: Volume One Blu-ray collection is coming on 5/30, featuring 20 cartoon shorts—all Blu-ray premieres and uncut, most of them from the Golden Age, and many from the original nitrate negatives—including Chuck Jones’ Beanstalk Bunny (1955), Arthur Davis’ Catch as Cats Can (1947), Frank Tashlin’s A Tale of Two Mice (1945), Robert McKimson’s Daffy Doodles (1946), and Friz Freleng’s His Bitter Half (1950)! And the best news is that if this release is successful, it will be followed by many more, including lots of as-yet-unreleased animated shorts.
Also coming from the Warner Archive in May is Anthony Mann’s Border Incident (1949) and Fritz Lang’s Clash by Night (1952) on Blu-ray on 5/2. You can see the cover artwork for these above left and also below.
And while we’re talking Warner-distributed titles, our friends at Adult Swim have just announced the DVD and Digital release of the animated The Venture Bros.: The Complete Series on 6/30. It will include all 82 episodes plus the previously-released special features. There does not seem to be a Blu-ray release planned, possibly because the early seasons were produced and finished in SD only.
In other release news, Lionsgate has set Guy Ritchie’s Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (2023) for 4K Ultra HD release on 5/16, followed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor’s Crank (2006) in 4K on 5/23.
Paramount has revealed the 6/6 Blu-ray, Blu-ray Steelbook, and DVD release of Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount+ streaming series Tulsa King: Season One. You can see the Blu-ray cover art below.
MVD has revealed the next two titles in their MVD Rewind Collection. We already knew about David Prior’s Killzone (1985), which is coming on 6/13, but also due that day is Kevin S. Tenny’s Witchtrap (1989).
Fun City Editions is releasing Morvern Caller (2002) on Blu-ray on 6/27.
