Also today, we’d like to call your attention to a new restoration effort from our good friend Bob Furmanek of the excellent 3-D Film Archive. Bob is leading the work to restore Arch Oboler’s final feature film, Domo Arigato (1972), which was produced in 3-D. He’s got a Kickstarter going right now that’s live for another 12 days. If you back the project for $30, you get a region-free Blu-ray copy of the resulting release that will include both Blu-ray 3-D and anaglyphic (red/cyan) 3-D versions. You’ll find the link here or by clicking on the image below...
Magnolia will release Nicolaj Arcel’s The Promised Land (2023) on Blu-ray on 4/30. The film stars Mads Mikkelsen.
In other news, Radiance Films in the UK is having a flash sale on their online shop, which you’ll find here with lots of discounted titles. And if you spend over £100 ($125 USD), you can get an addition 10% off by using the code BIGSPENDER at check out.
Finally, we need to take a moment today to acknowledge the passing of the great character actor M. Emmet Walsh, who died on Tuesday at the age of 88. Walsh appeared in many films over his long career, including Blood Simple, Knives Out, The Jerk, Christmas with the Cranks, Critters, Straight Time, and more, but it’s for his role as LAPD Police Captain Bryant in Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner that he’ll be forever remembered. You can read more here at Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter.
We’ll leave you today with a look at the cover artwork for a number of titles that are newly available for pre-order on Amazon in 4K UHD and Blu-ray, including Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (which has just arrived in theaters—street date TBA)...
Have a great weekend and we’ll see you back here on Monday!
