We’re rounding out the week here at The Bits with more new disc reviews, some new announcements, and a long-overdue column as well.

Starting with those reviews, Stephen and Tim have taken a look at Penelope Spheeris’ Wayne’s World: 30th Anniversary Edition that came out recently on 4K Ultra HD from Paramount Home Entertainment.

Stephen has also reviewed Dominick Barascia, Jr’s Evil Laugh (1986) on Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome.

And Dennis has turned in his thoughts on Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans (2022) on Blu-ray from Universal. A 4K UHD review of that title is forthcoming as well.

Also here at the site today, our old friend (and erstwhile Inglorious Trekspert) Mark A. Altman has checked in with a new MOD DEF column looking back at his personal picks for The Best Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Titles of 2022. I think you’ll find it a good read, so do give it a look. In announcement news today, the good people at Arrow Video have just revealed some great titles they’re working on for May. These include Jim Cummings and PJ McCabe’s The Beta Test (2021) on Blu-ray (in the UK only) on May 8, John Woo’s Hand of Death (1976) on Blu-ray (in the US and Canada only) on May 9, Terry Gilliam’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) in 4K Ultra HD (in the UK only) on May 22, and Michael Mann’s Blackhat (2015) (in the US, UK, and Canada) and Nick Castle’s The Last Starfighter (1984) (in the US and Canada only) on May 29-30. Here’s a look at the cover artwork for the three 4K titles (Amazon.com/co.uk pre-order links will be added when they go live)...

The Last Starfighter (4K Ultra HD) Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (4K Ultra HD) Blackhat (4K Ultra HD)

As expected, Imprint Films has also revealed their May slate of Blu-ray titles, which now officially includes John Ford’s The Long Voyage Home (1940), Lesley Selander’s The Catman of Paris (1946), Elliott Nugent’s The Great Gatsby (1949), Robert Mulligan’s The Spiral Road (1962), Harvey Hart’s Bus Riley’s Back in Town (1965), and Jules Dassin’s Up Tight (1968).

Also today, the Warner Archive Collection has set Anatole Litvak’s Confessions of a Nazi Spy (1939), Michael Curtiz’s Flamingo Road (1949), and Edward Buzzell’s Neptune’s Daughter (1949) for Blu-ray release on 3/14.

And here’s some welcome news: The French online retailer Fnac has just set Steven Spielberg’s Duel (1971) for 4K Ultra HD pre-order with a local expected street date of July 12th. You can safely rest assured that means the title is coming here in the States from Universal via SDS around that timeframe as well. Thanks to our friend Javier of Ultra Alta Definición España for the head-up!

That’s all for today. There’s a lot of terrible weather crossing the United States right now, so if you’re in harm’s way out there, stay safe and stay warm. Have a great weekend and we’ll see you back here on Monday.

Cheers!
