We assume that those extras will carry over to the 4K release. Given past CBS and Paramount TV 4K sets (see our reviews of Halo, Jack Ryan: Season One and Two, and Reacher), it’s also safe to assume that the Ultra HD release will include HDR10 high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos audio.
In any case, here’s what the packaging looks like (click here or on the image to visit the Amazon.com pre-order page)…
There does not seem to be a non-Steelbook SKU at this point, but it’s possible that one could be released at a later date.
One thing that’s worth pointing out here: If this title sells well, you can safely bet that Paramount will want to release more of its recent Star Trek series in 4K. And while Star Trek: Discovery hasn’t exactly been a critical hit—nor has it been particularly popular with longtime fans of the franchise—Star Trek: Picard is a much more interesting case. Seasons One and Two of that show also haven’t been critical or fan favorites, HOWEVER… word is that the new Season Three is the best Star Trek TV in over two decades. And if that proves to be true, you’d better believe Picard will be fast-tracked to 4K Ultra HD faster than Patrick Stewart can say, “Make it so!” Watch this space.
We do expect an official announcement of all this breaking Star Trek 4K news to be made at any time, so be sure to check back—we’ll definitely post all the details as soon as they come in.
Stay tuned…!
