All evidence from retailers right now suggests 2 SKUs for Star Wars: The Force Awakens due on 4/5 – a 2-disc Blu-ray Combo (includes DVD & Digital HD) and a DVD. However, there could be retail exclusive versions, including a Blu-ray 3D. Alternately, it’s possible Blu-ray 3D and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray SKUs may be announced at a later date. Keep in mind, none of this should be considered unofficial until Disney makes their actual announcement via a press release and almost certainly a post on StarWars.com.
That said, we should note that the Disney Store’s listing shows the title will have audio in 7.1 DTS-HD MA, 2.0 English DVS Dolby Digital, and 5.1 French and Latin Spanish Dolby Digital (Disney price $24.95). We also know from recent J.J. Abrams interviews that there’s some 10-20 minutes worth of deleted footage, at least some of which may be included on the Blu-ray.
Meanwhile, the fact that the 4/5 street date has finally begun appearing in the Amazon system suggests that an official announcement is due at any time, possibly as soon as this week.
Stay tuned for further updates.
