Next, here’s a surprise: They’re working on a new Blu-ray release of George Pal and Henry Levin’s The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm (1962), mastered from new 4K scans of the original Cinerama camera negatives, and featuring the film in both letterboxed widescreen and “Smilebox” format! This will be a 2-disc Deluxe Special Edition, offering 3 new featurettes (Rescuing a Fantasy Classic, The Epic Art of The Brothers Grimm, and The Wonderful Career of George Pal), along with trailers, audio-only pieces, and more TBA.

And Warner Archive is also preparing a new restored edition of William A. Wellman’s A Star Is Born (1937), also mastered from a new 4K scan of the original nitrate Technicolor camera negatives! Extras will include 2 audio-only Lux Radio Theater broadcasts—Janet Gaynor and Robert Montgomery (9/13/37) and Judy Garland and Walter Pidgeon (12/28/42)—the classic WB cartoon A Star is Hatched (1938), 3 classic WB shorts—Mal Hallett & His Orchestra (1937), Taking the Count (1937), and Alibi Mark (1937)—and the original theatrical trailer.

In other announcement news, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and Adult Swim have set Rick and Morty: Seasons 1-5 for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 3/29 (SRP $89.99 and $79.99). All 51 episodes will be included along with a host of behind-the-scenes material—think animatics, deleted scenes, audio commentaries, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and more.

Also, Lionsgate has set the Vestron Video Collector’s Series title Dream a Little Dream for release on Blu-ray on 3/15 (SRP $17.99). Extras will include audio commentary with film historian Jarret Gahan, 2 new interviews (Young at Heart with Corey Feldman and When Lightning Strikes with Executive Producer Lawrence Kasanoff), trailers, TV spots, and a stills gallery.

In other news today, we have a quick update for you on Criterion’s A Hard Day’s Night 4K release. We don’t actually have the disc in hand ourselves to confirm this, but readers are reporting that there’s an editing error on the 4K UHD. From 83:14–85:00, a series of shots of The Beatles performing in studio (and then departing by helicopter) are apparently out of order. The same sequence on the BD in the package is said to be correct. If this is true, we would imagine that Criterion will get to the bottom of it and make an official statement soon. In any case, thanks to Bits reader Tom C. for the heads-up.

And in interesting items of note from around the Internet this afternoon, Cullen Kelly’s excellent Masters of Color podcast has a new episode up featuring a chat with colorist Eric Weidt, a frequent David Fincher collaborator. In it, they discuss a number of topics, but of note here is that Weidt briefly mentions that he’s just been working on the restoration of Fincher’s Panic Room, which—as we reported here last week—retail sources are suggesting is coming to 4K UHD in March from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Thanks to Bits reader Scotty W. for the heads-up on that.

Finally today, we’d like to take a moment to acknowledge the passing recently of actor Yvette Mimieux, star of the 1960s film classics The Time Machine and Where the Boys Are, as well as Disney’s The Black Hole from the 1980s.
