All right, we have several more new disc reviews for you to close out the week today, and a bit more release news as well...

To start, Tim has turned in his thoughts on Paul Schrader’s Cat People (1982) in 4K Ultra HD from Scream Factory.

He’s also reviewed Sam Raimi’s Army of Darkness (1990) in 4K Ultra HD in both wide-release Amaray and Steelbook packaging, also from Scream Factory.

Stephen has taken a look at Yugo Sakamoto’s Baby Assassins (2021) on Blu-ray from Well Go USA Entertainment, as well as Jack Cardiff’s The Girl on a Motorcycle (1968) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, and also Sergio Bergonzelli’s Blood Delirium (1988) on Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome.

And Dennis has offered his thoughts on Rick Rosenthal’s Distant Thunder (1988) on Blu-ray from Paramount via Imprint Films.

All of these tiles are worth a look, and as always more reviews are forthcoming in the days ahead. [Read on here...]

Our release news today is mostly from Europe, but we do have a couple pieces of US news as well...

First, Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has just officially announced the Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release of the animated Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham on 3/28. Extras will include audio commentary with producer/co-director Sam Liu and screenwriter Jase Ricci as well as the Batman: Shadows of Gotham featurette. This is an adaptation of the popular Mike Mignola and Richard Pace comic miniseries from back in 2000.

Also, VCI Entertainment has just set the original 1940 The Green Hornet film serial for release as a new 2-disc Blu-ray special edition on 4/11. We don’t know what the remastering quality will be on this, but we’re certainly looking forward to hearing more about it. All 13 episodes will be included, along with liner notes by Martin Grams Jr., a pair of The Green Hornet radio episodes, Clifford Weimer’s I Am… The Green Hornet, and a photo gallery.

Meanwhile, across the Pond, Plaion Pictures (formerly Koch Media) in Germany has just set Giuseppe Tornatore’s Ennio: The Maestro (2021) documentary for release on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD in Germany on 4/27. Be aware, however, that the documentary is in Italian and this release has only German subtitles. With luck the doc will get an English-subtitled release as well, at least in the UK if not the US.

But on a related note, Plaion has also set Giuseppe Tornatore’s magnificent The Legend of 1900 (1998) for release on 4K Ultra HD that same day (4/27), and this is an English-language film. You can see the cover artwork below (with the Amazon.de pre-order link).

And it appears that Plaion (or another German distributor) is also working on an 8-disc 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray box set of the House Quadrilogy films—Steve Miner’s House (1986), Ethan Wiley’s House II: The Second Story (1987), James Isaac’s House III: The Horror Show (1989), and Lewis Abernathy’s House IV: The Repossession (1992) for release on 3/31. It’s not yet up on Amazon.de, but you can pre-order it here on Amazon.co.uk.

That’s all for today! Be sure to check back on Monday for more of Michael Coate’s retrospective look back at Steven Spielberg’s E.T. The Extra-Terrestrialan addition to his recent History, Legacy and Showmanship piece on the film.

We’ll leave you with a look at the cover artwork for a few of the titles mentioned above and more, with relevant Amazon pre-order links if available...
